"Conversation dart around the room but Michael takes no notice-happy to live in his dream world.Talk to him direct and he'll answer you-quietly and politely.His voice is high but velvet smooth.You have to strain to hear his words.The exchange finished he retreats back into his world.
"Michael is called onto the set.He has to sing directly into the camera.He takes up his starting position.The assistant editor has uttered his last 'Schh!' All eyes are on Michael.The tape starts...
"He takes two beats to relax his body into the beat and then...he explodes.
"His body tenses and the energy is shot out from his wiry frame like a bullet.He faces the camera and spits out the lyrics-his voice can be heard over the deafening playback.Michael grips his left sleeve with his right hand and jerks it upwards.
"He growls the chorus to the camera.He doesn't dance so much as glide.He launches into one of his famous spins-three turns in succession.
"It's the end of the take.Everybody applauds.They all know they've seen a performance.Michael is glowing with the exhilaration of his efforts.He's back in the spotlight and he knows he's home."
