Selena Gomez Breaks Down Her ‘Psychotic’ Alter Ego From ‘Hands To Myself’ Vid
Get a behind-the-scenes look at Sel\'s stalker fantasy scenario.
A month after debuting her sexy video for “Hands to Myself,” Selena Gomez is finally answering the question on everyone’s mind: WTF was up with that crazy stalker fantasy scenario?!
Make no mistake — seeing smoky-eyed Sel let loose after breaking into an L.A. mansion was riveting in every way, but the surprise twist at the end definitely left us wanting to know more.
Selena Gomez Is A Sexy Stalker In ‘Hands To Myself’ Video
In a behind-the-scenes look released Wednesday (Jan. 20), the
singer gives us a better view at the stunning hillside home used in the video, and explains the concept she was going for. Basically, she wanted to convey the feeling people get when they’re lusting and obsessing over someone (which is something I’m sure a few of us can relate to).
“I wanted the idea to feel like it was two different versions of being in this fantasy,” she explains. “I think everybody can have those moments where they’re dreaming about what their life could be, especially girls with love. Being obsessed with the idea, and you can’t control yourself because that’s what you want, no matter what’s happening.”
In the vid, Selena perfectly portrays that kind of unhinged lover, playing out a movie-like romance in her head that eventually comes crashing down when her “psychotic” character snaps out of her “completely delusional state.”
“You get to see these images of what people think love is,” she says. “It’s theatrical, it’s movie-like. And all that you end up seeing ends up being this false reality on both ends. That’s what I wanted it to feel like.”
As for the song itself, there’s no doubt “Hands to Myself” is one of Selena’s strongest and sexiest singles yet. And it sounds like there’s a lot more where that came from.
“It’s one of those hidden gem kind of songs,” Selena said about the track. “It’s very beautiful and special and it’s got this funk to it that really created this whole sound that I feel like could knock me into the future of my music.”
Just count it as another way Selena is transforming herself and her sound. Sure, she COULD play it safe… but why would she want to?
