Let's face it; the first Silent collina movie stood true to its fonte material. It wasn't really scary, but it knew how to capture the essence of Silent Hill. It followed the storyline of the first Silent collina game, just like a movie adaption to a video game should. A mother drove da an eerie, mysterious town with her daughter, got into an accident, her daughter was gone, yadda yadda... True, it's been done before, but it worked. The first Silent collina movie didn't make for the scariest horror flick of all time, but it was (and still is, if te ask me) one of the best Film based on video games. Now, on to my personal thoughts and feelings about Silent Hill: Revelation...
...and if you're an obsessive fan who is absolutely excited for this movie thinking it's going to be awesome, and can't take it when someone has a different opinion, go read something else. You've been warned.
The synopsis so far:
~When her father disappears, Heather Mason is drawn into a strange and terrifying alternate reality that holds risposte to the horrific nightmares that have plagued her since childhood.~
Okay, so that sounds accurate. Not entirely true to Silent collina 3 (the game in which te controlled Heather), but I guess te ought to make some changes to make it più interesting. However, there are boundaries to how much te can knead with a franchise before te disjoint it, making it a weird mess that doesn't make the slightest hick of sense.
So, Heather Mason, in a live-action movie. Sounds exciting. She's always been one of my favourite female video game protagonists. Adelaide Clemens bears a fine resemblance to Heather, so the looks fit. The costume design though... Meh, I'm not sure. She wears her trademark white vest, but that's all I can make out of her original costume. Her arancia, arancio sweater that covered her neck fully has been replaced da a red shirt/hoody. Her green gonna has been replaced da a thight blue jeans. A little sloppy da the costume designers, but I'm whining about something that's not very important. No, the real screw ups are listed below:
geez, not Pyramid Head!!
Aw seriously, Pyramid Head again!? When are movie directors gonna learn, GO TROUGH THE fonte MATERIAL before deciding to cash in with a movie. If this story is going to be about Heather, then Pyramid Head should have no business here at all. Pyramid Head represents James Sunderland's (the protagonist in Silent collina 2) wish to be punished for the death of his wife. If James were to make an appearance in Silent Hill: Revelation, then it'd be a different story. But what is Pyramid Head doing here? The first movie did the same thing, which was already cheesey. Ever played Silent Hill: Homecoming? It seems as if people think Pyramid Head is just some sadistic freak wandering around Silent Hill, randomly butchering everyone he sees, just because he wants to. Yeah, yeah, Pyramid Head is really cool, and I'm sure Michael J. Bassett (director) thinks so too, but... please... Stop with all the fan-service, and try to give us something logical and something we'd all like to see. A message to Bassett; if te want to include Pyramid Head so badly, make the movie revolve around James Sunderland and Silent collina 2. At least that would make some sense.
the Silent collina 2 soundtrack
The soundtrack from Silent collina 2 has been re-used, and put into the movie's trailer. I don't know how I feel about that. In one way, it relates a little bit to Silent collina 2, which would make Pyramid Head's role in the movie più believable. That is, if it were to become a soundtrack in the actual movie itself. It's also a, just plain, a great soundtrack. If te look at it in a different way, it's lazy. Utter laziness of the Musica componist. The Silent collina 2 soundtrack is beautiful, arguable the most emotionally beautiful soundtrack in the series. But this is similar to my complaint about Pyramid Head being in this movie. I agree that it's a great soundtrack, but there's no reason why te would put it in a movie. mostra some creativity, make a new soundtrack!
All in all, I think this could very well be just like a submission te would find on fanfiction.net. All the characters we know and Amore are present and there are some new characters, but there's so much different stuff going on, stuff that doesn't make sense. If you're going to make it revolve around Heather Mason, make the story as closely based on Silent collina 3 as possible. The first Silent collina movie closely followed the first game, and they pulled off a very enjoyable movie. It didn't feature the actual characters, but that didn't matter. The story made sense, which I'm afraid is not going to be the case in Silent Hill: Revelations.
