Why is it bad for another vampire to feed off another vampire's blood?

In Season 4 Episode 2, "Memorial" Damon gives Elena his blood to drink and I don't get why he told her not to tell Stefan. Damon also detto it was "kind of personal". And Stefan got jealous o mad at Damon for giving Elena his blood and got upset with Elena for drinking Damon's blood instead of his.... so my domanda is WHY IS IT SUCH A BIG DEAL TO DRINK ANOTHER VAMPIRE'S BLOOD WHEN YOUR A VAMPIRE??
