No matter where te stand on the whole Elena/Damon/Stefan triangolo this moment has been building all season and needed to happen as it would be a disservice to these characters and the story if it didn't.

elena has obviously been through a lot and now its time for her to make a big decision: choose between Damon and Stefan. We know she has feelings for both but now the pressure is on for her to pick one o the other to be all lovey dovey with.

I thought this episode did a good job of presenting a believable hook-up between Elena and Damon. Obviously the mostra has been building up to this moment, and the fact that it happened was wholly unsurprising.

The scene where Elena watches an unknowing Damon just be was such an inspired choice, so illustrative of both his character and her changing feelings towards him without either of them saying a word.
