‘The Walking Dead’ Filmed Two Different Season Finales Because Of Negan
‘s “atomic bomb” of a villain, Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, will make his debut in the season six finale. We’re also aware that TV show Negan might be very different than comic-book Negan, because comic-book Negan says things like, “Motherf*cking d*ck suck c*nt f*cking f*ck f*ckity f*ck f*cker f*cking f*ck f*ckers,” and AMC doesn’t want to get f*ck f*ckity f*cking fined. So, what’s TV’s most popular show to do? Have a backup plan.
whether he filmed Negan’s debut in two different ways, director Greg Nicotero responded, “That would be a very good guess.”
“Even back when Michael Cudlitz was cast as Abraham we were like, ‘Damn, how are we going to deal with Abraham’s dialogue?’ And I think Gimple went, ‘Yeah, Abraham’s dialogue is fine. It’s Negan that we’re going to have problems with because every other word of Negan’s is f*ck.’ There is a rhythm to it that even in some of the takes that we did. What I affectionately call the ‘f*ck takes’ have a completely different rhythm to them and a completely different feel. So while editing it, I was very careful to make sure that I preserved a lot of the performance without getting myself into trouble with the profanity.” (Via
In the broadcast version of the season four finale, Rick wimps out and says, “They’re screwing with the wrong people,” but on the DVD, “screwing” is changed to “f*cking.”
was criticized for the curse-free threat, so I’d imagine we’ll get at least one Negan-ism in this season’s finale (especially when
is dropping F-bombs left and right). The “f*ck take” will air the first time, and be edited out in repeats. It’s like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book, except with swearing and zombies.

It’s too bad that in 2016, we can’t have a character who says Fuck on network tv. Like it will be the downfall of society.
It’s not even network TV. We pay for it, and I, for one, want my hard earned money to give me a bat-wielding sociopath with salty language.
It just blows my mind that cursing is so frowned upon but all the gore is ok. I don’t mean that in a personal sense. I’m fine with both. Just in terms of censors…
The priorities of what we need to “shelter” people from are so twisted.
Fuck yeah Prince Val! Was going go say here here, but this seemed appropriate
They can get away with I without getting fined, right? I thought it was only broadcast cursing, and cable nudity that got fined. Cursing is just fear of losing advertisers because of those regressive assholes in Million Moms or whatever.
Worst to worst, why not just do what Mr Robot does, use the word and mute it? Then it’s present on the disc/stream version with no editing. And it conveys a message of “Hey, we want to say it but we can’t” instead of “we censored ourselves because who cares.”
Agreed, I thought that it actually worked well in Mr Robot, it didn’t disrupt the flow of the dialogue despite it being muted. The only problem could be the sheer amount of them in one sentence, haha.
Just do a Goldbergs and bleep/blur it out…or do what the Magicians does and mute it after the F
AMC is pay cable and can’t be fined for cursing as the FCC has no power over them, just internal standards and practices. This is why FX got away with dropping a “Fuck” on the American Crime story recently.
American Crime (ABC) does a neat thing where they clip the word by clipping the entire video/audio out for that millisecond… it works because it conveys the word’s thrust and you don’t lose the rhythm…it actually snaps me to attention in a weird way curse words haven’t done since i was a kid. With Negan, this could result in viewers having epileptic fits though.
Breaking Bad used the word to great effect, whether it was actually used or clipped out.
By all means, show Noah getting his face ripped off, and be eaten alive, but the word “fuck”?? WON’T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN???????
I have a nephew that is allowed to play call of duty “even though it has curse words”. There are just some weird christian churches out there I think? I don’t get it at all personally.

I'm sooooooooooo glad they're doing a f*ck version!!! I was worried that Negan not swearing would affect the character! I don't know if they're going to do this for every episode he's in though.... We'll see.
