'The Walking Dead' season finale ends in massive cliffhanger
[SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you have already watched Sunday’s
So we finally met the infamous Negan on Sunday night’s finale of
. But saying hello to him meant saying goodbye to someone else. Although we still don’t know who was introduced, face-first, to Negan’s barbed wire covered baseball bat (aka Lucille), the man who plays Negan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, went on
immediately after the cliffhanger and weighed in on the introduction of his character. A few highlights:
“It felt good. I mean, I feel bad for whoever was on the receiving end of Lucille. But for me, as soon as I held her, I was Negan. That kind of did it for me. Any kind of preparation didn’t mean much until Lucille was in my hand.”
On working with the cast for that climactic scene:
“It was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen a group of actors do. And especially to be off-camera. And it was cold as hell. It was all night shoots. And really, for 15 hours, they were on their knees – this whole wonderful cas – and crying and emoting and psyching themselves up between takes. And putting 120 percent into it.”
“He’s just kind of a charismatic leader. And also people are probably a little scared of him. But in this
world, people are going to follow a guy like that. Just like Rick. Rick’s a little psychotic, I think … They’re just two sides of the same coin, really. Negan and Rick are very similar. I think that Negan’s letting him get off kind of easy. I count at least 20 people that Rick and Daryl have killed of my guys.”

If he only kills one out of every 10 people he finds, and he gets nine good followers out of that, pretty soon you have 50 people.”
