What are the teams REALLY about?

I don't understand this "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob stuff. I thought that the teams were about Bella's choice... what does that have to do with us and our favorites? It's starting... no already has... gotten on my nerves. :(

But now, these 'Team Edward' and 'Team Jacob' terms usually refer to whom the person supports/prefers/likes. There are even Team Jasper, Team Bella, Team Emmett, etc. I know these teams don't really make sense. But they still exist as they are. =P
