The wonderful world of anime. What’s not to Amore about it? Well, besides the cheesy English voice acting, insane fan service, and friendship being the cure for everything. Besides what no one loves, what’s not to love. Weather it is the animation, the humor, the action, the story, or, in this case, the characters. Without characters, there wouldn’t be much to… anything. Movies, games, tv shows, and Anime as well. And there are so many great characters, that it is impossible to just choose ten. So, instead, I am going to give te twenty Anime characters that I like. First off, the rules. Only one character per anime, and only Anime that I have watched. Also, no Anime characters that come from Anime based off of video games. Wot all that said, let us start the list.
#20: Tomoko Kuroki from Watamote
Talk about an endurance test. Watamote reminds me FAR too much of my own life, and it’s… honestly quite sad, really. So, in the Anime (And I am not making this titolo up) No Matter How I Look At It, It’s Your Guys’ Fault I’m Not popolare (I’ll just stick with Watamote), it follows an antisocial girl named Tomoko, who wants to be popular, which usually never ends well. She has tons of experience in online dating simulators, and is able to understand guys through there. Talking to a guy in real life, however, is the hard part. Hell, she can’t even order Cibo without stuttering and going quiet. I swear to god, why does this remind me of me so much. I can barely go through one episode without having to take a break, because this is just too much like me. Granted, it isn’t that much like me, as I don’t think I will try to get sexually assaulted on a train just to get noticed, which is what Tomoko actually tries to do. Of course, she can’t even get that. Here’s to Tomoko. She will never get popular… much like me, sadly.
#19: Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki
Oh boy, this yandere. Yuno started as a young, and incredibly shy girl when the series had started, not wanting doing much for anyone. However, after meeting Yukiteru, she suddenly had a purpose to live again, as she fell in Amore with Yukiteru and promised to protect him. However, with this came something that isn’t really a sweet sort of romance, oh no. After she promised to protect Yukiteru, she would go to any lengths to protect him, and da this, I mean she goes and murders ANYONE who threatens him, even allowing an entire group of school children to die from motion sensor bombs in order to save him… I’ll give him this much, at least she’s loyal. It gets so bad, she even tries to murder people who even want to get close to Yukiteru to be Friends with him. Granted, her backstory pretty much justifies her insane behavior. I’d give it away, but no thank you, I won’t spoil it here. Trust me, te just go and watch it. It’s better that way. It’s so sad, it will make te want to even hug a psycho like Yuno. If te can manage to do that, te deserve my respect, Mirai Nikki
#18: Shinichi Izumi from Parasyte: The Maxim
Oh, poor Shinichi… All he wanted was to live a normal life, and then an alien parasite got into his arm. Shinichi is, in my opinion, probably one of the most well made characters of the Anime that involves a protagonist turning into a monster despised da humanity (Anime like Attack on Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, and this one). Shinichi started as a simple boy, who had a crush on his friend Satomi. However, after his arm is taken over da a parasite named Migi, his entire life changes, as he is forced to fight other parasites that wish to kill him, as well as having his entire life change, along with his personality, turning him into thinking like other parasites, but tries his hardest to keep his humanity. Like Dark Souls, only più depressing than frustrating. I always liked him a bit più than Kaneki o Eren Yeager, as he wasn’t some guy in the army, but just a usual high school student. And (Spoilers) unlike Kaneki, he wants to avoid turning into a full parasite, as he still believes he can be saved. Just watching him change completely is something I really like. I rarely care for high school protagonists who seem pretty whiny, but Shinichi really grew on me, as he soon matured, which I loved to watch. That and Migi changing his arm is always wonderful to watch.
#17: Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran Highschool Host Club
What do te get when te have a girl around an entire group of studly boys? A reverse harem where the girl blushes over all of the guys? NO! That is not Ouran Highschool Host Club. And that is not Haruhi. Haruhi is an intelligent student at her school, trying to find a quiet place to study. However, after breaking an expensive vase in an all boys host club, she is forced to use her male like appearance to pay off the vase, after which, leads to one of the funniest Anime ever made. What makes Haruhi really interesting is she isn’t like the usual girl in a situation like this. If the Anime was made da someone else, she would have been incredibly happy to be amongst a bunch of handsome men. Not Haruhi. She is not fond of working with the host club at first, and is completely immune to their charms, which usually works with other girls. Sure, she does become best Friends with them as the series goes on, but she never acts like a teenage girl with many dirty thoughts. That is what made Ouran Highschool Host Club stick out of the other reverse harem anime, and that is why everyone loves it so much, including me.
#16: Vegeta from Dragonball Z
I know that some people much prefer Goku over this, and I can see why. Goku is cool. But in all honesty, I much prefer Vegeta for his huge character change and maturity throughout the series. When we were first introduced to Vegeta, he started out as… kind of a prick… and da that, I mean he tried to kill Goku and blow up earth. And after Goku spared his life, Vegeta still tried to do what he could to gain immortality. He never really did try to become a good guy until the end of the Androids saga, where after meeting his future son Trunks, he then…. uh….. Well, let’s say that if te know how bambini are made, that’s what happened. So after that, and after the defeat of Cell, Vegeta then tried to be a good father to Trunks and husband to Bulma. Just seeing Vegeta go from being one of the strongest and most egotistical villains in the series to being someone who fights alongside Goku to protect earth is amazing. Not to mention, at least he can be there for his son. Goku… not so much. Though, Goku had an excuse. He kinda… died…. A couple times… But still, Vegeta is the better father.
#15: Chiyo Mihama from Azumanga Daioh
I honestly have to say, I am jealous of this kid. She got to skip grades up until high school due to her intelligence, and here I am, barely finished with 11th grade… Why can’t I smart like her? Anyway, like I said, Chiyo is a young, but incredibly smart girl, as she was able to go from elementary school all the way to high school. She excels in everything… Well, except P.E.. She kinda sucks at that. She is only ten when she arrives at high school, yet gets along with everyone like she is as old as they are. She is especially Friends with the naive Osaka and the quiet animal lover Sakaki. And she is such an interesting character, that everyone else even thinks her pigtails are interesting, as they can either keep her head in place, have a mind of their own, and can make Chiyo fly, and that’s just to name a few things they say. It’s quite silly (Then again, I’m talking about Azumanga Daioh). She also behaves like any ten anno old would, being incredibly shy and easily scared, which makes her più adorable. Now, let’s sposta on before the FBI mistakes this for something bad like the cute Anime characters list
#14: Revy from Black Lagoon
Revy is an… interesting kind of insane in the membrane. Growing up in the worst places in the world, she learned più about violence than any kid probably should. However, her childhood is SO much worse than te could imagine. This, of course, lead to the psychotic gun wielding killer she is today. Her personality makes her a crazed, psychotic, and VERY short-tempered women, willing to pull a gun out on just about anyone, with the chance of survival really depending on her mood. Her lack of care of life is what makes her so deadly, as she will gladly attack anyone. However, she doesn’t seem to be close to anyone, due to her past, as she seems to be incredibly scarred, physically and mentally, from this. This also affects her combat, because OH BOY, they don’t call her Two Hands for nothing. She uses dual wield handguns to fight, and she can slaughter an entire army with machine guns, missiles, and even helicopters with just those two handguns, making for some of the best action scenes in the series. Revy may be a bitch, but a cagna we feel sympathy for, and that is what makes her so great… That and those fight scenes are awesome.
#13: Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate
One gun toting psychopath to another. Only this one is più deadly, surprisingly. Alucard is a vampire who was defeated da furgone, van Helsing years ago, leading to him swearing loyalty to the Hellsing family, and becoming a monster hunter for the Hellsing Organization, which is dedicated to fighting Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. and monsters. Being immortal, Alucard is able to regenerate his limbs, even after being torn to shreds da swords and bullets. This causes him to have an incredibly egotistical personality, always taunting his enemies before he kills them. He does not care at all about how badly he gets killed, because he knows that he can just heal himself and come back stronger. However, this does lead to him getting distracted, as Alexander is even able to decapitate him. Granted, he came back, but still. Alucard is also incredibly loyal to his comrades, especially Sir Integra. Loyal like a dog… Oh, I get it. It’s cause he can turn into a dog. And then there’s his powers… (Ahem). Immortality, invincibility, regeneration, super senses, super speed, illusion, superhuman strength, invisibility, teleportation, telepathy, hypnosis, summoning, memory absorption, high resistance, omnipresence, and the ability to appear and disappear… Sheesh, he’s like a single X-men team
#12: Saeko Busujima from Highschool of the Dead
“Oh well, of course you’d choose her”. And your right. I would… for her character…. What, te thought it was for her great, big, huge pair of eyes? Anyway, Saeko is a pretty good character, with a pretty messed up backstory. te might as well enjoy it, as it is the only amount of character development you’re going to get with this show. She was attacked da a sex offender, who she badly injured. Instead of getting arrested, the charges were dropped when the police found out it was in self defence. After that, she enjoyed the feeling of hurting people who do bad, causing her to grow a sadistic personality, but also seeing this as a way to keep her from having any happiness, until she met Takashi and started to enjoy life more. She is also the most agile character in the series, as she is able to jump everywhere, and spin around, while being able to slice zombies in half with her katana. And she is the only character to not use a gun to fight, as she is probably able to tell that the zombies in this series are only attracted to sound, so a sword will probably cause less noise than a gun. Who would have thought an interesting character could hide behind insane breast movement, and extreme panty shots.
#11: Korosensei from Assassination Classroom
Quite possibly the greatest teacher in Anime since Stein, Korosensei is not the most sane of teachers, but definitely one of the best. Being an alien from another planet, he threatens the world da blowing up the moon and giving it a permanent crescent shape, and says he will do the same to the earth in a anno if he is not killed. However, he is able to sposta at mach 20 speed, and can heal any dismembered limbs. He is also incredibly smart, able to teach all subjects in the world to the class E-3 students, and is able to get along and relate to all of them, leading to all of his students respecting him. I really do Amore this Anime for having every student have a personality instead of some of them being background characters with no personality like in most anime. It’s a nice touch. Korosensei also reminds me of L, other than his intelligence, he is also has a craving for sweets, even going across the entire planet to try all kinds of food. He also changes his face to mostra his mood. He gets green stripes to taunt people, he has a cerchio on his face to mostra a correct answer and an X to mostra a wrong answer. He is rosa when he is aroused. He is blue when he is sad, and when he is angry… well, trust me. That is pretty damn terrifying. If only my teachers were like that, then maybe I could be as smart as Chiyo… Maybe…
#10: calza, maglia rasata Anarchy from Panty and calza, maglia rasata with Garterbelt
How is this anime? I asked myself the same thing everyday, but it is, so don’t domanda me. Now, calza, maglia rasata is, like her sister Panty, a banished Angel who is sent to Daten City with her sister in order to earn enough Heaven Coins from killing Ghosts to earn her way back into Heaven. Unlike Panty, who's più interested in her goal of sleeping with 1000 men before going back to Heaven, calza, maglia rasata is più level-headed and tries to get back into Heaven, though is usually distracted from sweets, which she has a huge craving for. She is also not as perverted as her sister, though does occasionally get the urges, but is più into masochistic sort of pleasures, even including electrocution. She can also turn her stockings into katana swords, named Stripes I and Stripes II. I always enjoyed calza, maglia rasata più because she was a lot più interesting, especially with her character development of how she falls in Amore with a ghost and is willing to abandon Heaven to stay with him, which was a really great episode if te ask me. And plus, her hair is really good… Yeah, hair color makes her one of my preferito Anime characters… go figure.
#9: Death the Kid from Soul Eater
Of all of the Soul Eater character, none are più crazed than Stein…. But Death the Kid has got to be up there somewhere. Being the son of freaking Death himself, he is still no different than any other student. It doesn’t matter if your dad holds power over life and death, te gotta work for those witch souls like everyone else, kid. Hell, he doesn’t even talk to his dad like a son would. It’s più like a co-worker o something. He fights with his weapons, Liz and Patty Thompson, who transform into dual wield handguns, which allows Death the Kid to keep his symmetry… Oh, I also forgot to mention, he has some insane OCD, because everything, to him, must be perfectly symmetrical. I mean, I need everything to be in alphabetical order, but I never lose my mind like Death the Kid does. He is willing to leave Liz and Patty to die in an egyptian cavern just to fix a crooked painting. Though he is a bit too much of a perfectionist, he is still always loyal to his Friends and his father, and still sees the good people, and accepts that some people can do wrong, and that everyone is capable of doing wrong. He may not be perfect himself, but he is still a great character. Also, he has fangirls everywhere, so that’s a plus
#8: Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
Yep, we all knew this guy would have to come on here eventually. I think we all know and Amore Edward, and for good reason. Edward may seem like a sarcastic, selfish, and arrogant douchebag, but when it comes to his Friends and his brother, he is still willing to help those he care for. He is also there to help many people who in hard times, as he knows that people who have experienced suffering like he has should be able to have someone be there to help them, which is what makes Edward such a great role model, as he will help anyone and even bend the rules of the government to help anyone who is suffering like he had at a young age. And let me remind you, he Lost his mother, his arm and leg, and his brother Lost his body and was placed in a suit of armor. That must be one tough childhood, let me tell you. He is also always very close to his brother, Alphonse, and his romance with Winry is easily one of the best, which I am not a fan of, so if te can make a romance good, even in my eyes, te deserve a medal. He may be a jerk, but he’s a very sympathetic one… Oh, and course I can’t sposta on without mentioning his small height.
#7: Levi from Attack on Titan
Oh boy, another badass with OCD. What are the odds. Levi ain’t no Death the Kid, and Attack on Titan ain’t got no humor. Levi is seen as the true huge badass of the Scout Regiment, able to cut down Titans on his own, and still has time to make a comment, without even breaking a sweat. He is also, like Death the Kid, a neat freak, going so far as to clean an entire castello before doing anything else. What can I say, Levi demands perfection of the highest order. He also has a very cold sort of personality, seeming like he does not care for his allies and their safety. However, though he may seem like a heartless bastard, he is one of the most caring of the group, even defending those that need it and so distraught over his allies death, even believing himself responsible for their deaths, but doesn’t mostra it, as he wants to stay strong for his remaining allies. All I can say is, PLEASE, DO NOT KILL HIM! I CAN TELL te ARE THINKING IT, BUT HE DOES NOT HAVE TO DIE! And if he does have to, AT LEAST make it an honorable one.
#6: Dio Brando from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
I couldn’t help it. I REALLY couldn’t help it. Dio is just such a badass, I just had to put him above all of the Joestars. Dio was already evil even before he met Jonathan as a child, as he despised his father for overworking his mother to death and abusing him. He slowly began poisoning him over the years, and since his father saved the life of Jonathan’s father, he was accepted into the Joestar household as the adopted brother of Jonathan. This soon lead to Dio trying to ruin his life and take the Joestar fortune for himself. However, when that failed, he then used the Stone Mask to become an immortal vampire with extreme power. How powerful is he? Well, he was able to take over an entire town in London, resurrect a thousand soldiers to do his bidding, and even has one of his lackies being the infamous killer Jack the Ripper turned into a vampire… I am not making this up. And after nearly being defeated (Spoilers) He kills Jonathan, uses his head to take over his body, and stays hidden for a hundred years, only to come back in the 1980’s to kill Jotaro with his ability to freeze time and even crush people with a steamroller. Are te freaking kidding me?! Not to mention the glorious set of catchphrases at his disposal. Road Roller, Wry, Useless, It was I, Dio. The catchphrases are endless. Also, Dio had a son, named Giorno Giovanna. PLEASE, ANIMATE THIS AFTER PART 4!
#5: Light Yagami from Death Note
Yes, that’s right, I prefer Light over L. I can hear te all getting mad. Anyway, Light once started out as a young high school student, who saw so much evil in the world. So much, in fact, that he wished he could do something about it. Thankfully (For him, anyway), he come across the Death Note, a notebook from the Shinigami realm that allows him to kill anyone whose name is written in it. So, naturally, Light uses this to his advantage to become a “god” da the name of Kira, and begins Scrivere down the names of criminals to kill them and bring forth his sort of judgement onto the world. What really amazes me about Light is that he isn’t your typical high school kid. He is an evil genius, and he shows. Light was actually able to (Spoilers) outsmart L da getting rid of the Death Note and erasing his memory of it, resulting in it being sent to a different man to kill criminals, who was then found da police and the Death Note ended up back into the hands of Light. That takes some incredible planning. His manipulating and brilliant personality is what makes him so awesome, and easily one of my preferito villains, and for good reasons
#4: Lelouch Vi Britannia from Code Geass
As much as Lelouch may do some bad in his life, I never considered him to be a bad guy. Being the son of the ruler of Britannia, he is actually not interested in noble life… and da that, I mean he completely despises his noble life and wishes to have nothing with it, joining the rebellion group to overthrow his father and bring forth a più privileged ruler. That being Lelouch, of course. Lelouch has two different sides. He is either a young schoolboy with much intelligence, and he is the rebel leader Zero, who sees that the deaths of everyone, soldiers and civilians alike, is for the good of Britannia. Sure, he may not be… The best of heroes, but he is still trying to do good for the world…. even if it isn’t done in the best ways. Still, he is able to do so much in the series that is just amazing, and not to mention, with his Geass power allowing him to control the minds of people, it is honestly quite amazing, and just adds to his epicness. And in the end, I won’t say, because this ending is something te need to see for yourself, but what he does in the end is what easily puts him on my list. Not the most graceful of heroes, but when the world is completely in war, he’s as good as it gets.
#3: Kenzo Tenma from Monster
As much as I Amore that incredible bastard Johan, I have to say that Tenma was the best character in the entire series. I mean, seriously, the crap this guy goes through is pretty tough. He started out with a good life, with a loving fiance and a chance to become a neurosurgeon. However, he saw the unjust actions in the hospital, where poor families, no matter when they arrive, are unable to receive treatment before rich civilians o celebritàs o politicians, which made Tenma domanda this. And this all came into play when he had to operate on a boy, but was then told to operate on the town mayor. Of course, Tenma operated on the boy instead, and the mayor died. Seen as irresponsible, the hospital director demoted him, and Tenma’s fiance broke off from their engagement. Tenma still believed that he did a good thing da saving the young boy, but thought that it would be best if those who wronged him were better dead, but thought it would be fine, as no one would hear… Oh, BOY, was he wrong. That boy he saved? Yeah, that was Johan, and Johan heard what he said, and he killed the doctors. And Johan still went on to kill many others, leading to Tenma doing what he can to stop Johan. What makes Tenma so great is that, te gotta remember, we are talking about Monster, an Anime filled with some of the worst people ever, and Tenma still manages to keep his humanity. Like Dark Sou- Wait, I already made that joke. This sort of change is what I feel makes him a great Anime protagonist, because, come on, who would be able to stay sane after the crap he went through?
#2: Lucy from Elfen Lied
OH GOD, LUCY! I could go on and on about her backstory and how she became such an evil person to the point where she wants to kill everyone on the planet, but trust me, it’s better if te watch this Anime for yourself, because I just cannot do this justice. Anyway, Lucy is a Diclonius, o a girl born with Supernatural powers that will soon lead to them harming o even killing humans. She is a special one, however, as she wants to live in a world made only with Diclonius, which it… actually terrifying, really. However, she has a diviso, spalato personality. After escaping from her test lab and killing dozens of guards (In the first fifteen minuti of the anime, I should add), Lucy ends up having a diviso, spalato personality, called Nyu. Unlike Lucy, who is hateful and completely sadistic, Nyu is a lot più kind and curious as to how the world works. This diviso, spalato personality is literally the only thing keeping Kouta from getting killed. However, even as Lucy, she still cares for Kouta because of her past, which, again, I will not say. Trust me, if te want to respect Lucy as much as I do, te must watch Elfen Lied…… Unless you're scared of Elfen Lied. Like Deathding
#1: Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop
Come on. te all know me. te all know what my preferito Anime is. Is this opinion biased as hell? I don’t care. Spike is the best freaking character in anime. Being a Cowboy in the future, where crime is rampant in space, Spike is out to hunt down criminals and capture them for a profit. However, when Spike isn’t going around, fighting criminals with karate style moves, he is sitting around on the Bebop ship, being a lazy guy, sleeping and watching TV. However, like everyone else on this list, he has quite the backstory, as he was once apart of a crime syndicate himself, and left, hoping to change his life, but always looks for a challenge, in order to challenge death in a way. Also, in the world of Cowboy Bebop, Cowboys are seen as Heroes to people. But Spike sees it differently, as she believes he is no hero at all, and is only stopping criminals just so he can make some money, not because it is for the good of everyone in the galaxy. But he is still loyal to his crew. Sure, he may sometimes call their dog Ein his emergency Cibo (Which is always good for a laugh if te ask me), but he is still loyal to them, seeing them as Friends and even passing up bounties in order to help his teammates. And no spoilers, but in the end… OH GOD, that ending was perfect. But what am I saying, everything about Cowboy Bebop is perfect. Am I an obsessed fanboy? Maybe. But nevertheless, Spike is, and always will be, my preferito Anime character.
Well, there te have it. Did te enjoy the list? Tell me what te thought of it. With that said, I will see te all successivo time.
What do te get when te have a girl around an entire group of studly boys? A reverse harem where the girl blushes over all of the guys? NO! That is not Ouran Highschool Host Club. And that is not Haruhi. Haruhi is an intelligent student at her school, trying to find a quiet place to study. Not to mention, at least he can be there for his son. Goku… not so much. Though, Goku had an excuse. He kinda… died…. A couple times… But still, Vegeta is the better father.
#15: Chiyo Mihama from Azumanga Daioh
