Hm, if you're looking for magical girl anime, here are my personal favorites:
PreCure! (The seasons all have separate stories, so they can be watched in any order. My preferito is Smile PreCure! It has a lot of fairy tale elements, similar to Shugo Chara as well. Some of the other PreCure seasons have the villains creating monsters from human emotion too.)
Sailor Moon (A classic.)
Tokyo Mew Mew (Do te like science and characters named after food??? here te go.)
Princess Tutu (This is extremely fairy tale based. I'd highly recommend it. It's not that light and happy, but it isn't extremely dark. It's a good in the middle kind of show. It's really great.)
Kill la Kill (This one is a bit più mature than the others. It handles mature topics and has a bit of fanservice.)
Panty and calza, maglia rasata with Garterbelt (Same as Kill la Kill, but like ten times less serious. It's a magical girl comedy.)
Ojamajo Doremi (Oh man this mostra is BEAUTIFUL. It handles mature topics, but this time when I say mature topics I mean illnesses and divorce, not nsfw stuff. It's such an amazing anime, even though the art isn't the best.)
