If te enjoy vampires, angels, unique story lines and lots of action then this book is for you. I have just read the first book on the Guild Hunter series da Nalini Singh – Angel’s Blood (Guild Hunter, Book 1). This book is a good debut to this series and I found it very different from Ms. Singh’s Psy-Changeling series.
A quick synopsis, Elena Deveraux, she’s a born vampire hunter; her best friend is Sara and she has a few childhood issues. She is a no nonsense type, feminine but tough as nails. She’s summoned da the archangel Raphael, he’s a high and mighty Angel and ruler, he’s arrogant, but super sexy. Elena is hired to do a specific job for Raphael that only she can do, due to her natural talents. Instead of hunting a vampire she has to hunt another archangel who has gone on a killing spree. The angel’s in this series run the show, and I really like Ms. Singh’s lack of religious connotation, the Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. are subservient and made da the angel’s, a great twist.
This story is well done and full of action, it has a very intense storyline, with some very hot and sexy characters but if you’re into lots of romance you’ll be disappointed. The hunt for the rogue Angel is the focus of the plot and the action and suspense really keep the story moving. Ms. Singh’s world in this series is intriguing and very original. Although I liked the characters, I did find it hard to relate and sympathize with Elena and Raphael. I found it sudden that Elena went from “I will absolutely not have sex with you!” to “give it to me, now!” she was full of emotional extremes. Raphael was very arrogant and self righteous I found him hard to like. Although there was a little build up about their relationship, it just wasn’t believable to me. The story needed più chemistry for me o più romantic tension, I can’t pin point it but it was lacking something.
Also Angel’s Blood was not as steamy as I’d hoped with build up to only one sex scene; I felt it needed più romance. However this novel does have very cool mythology, along with ultra sexy angeli and vampires. The storyline and world building is very well done and unique.
The ending was not what I anticipated. I will definitely get Ms. Singh’s secondo book in this series Archangel's baciare (Guild Hunter, Book 2) to see how the storyline and characters progress. Stay tuned for that review.
