Principesse Disney Article: A Defense for Princess gelsomino

In their movie, Aladdin really loves and respects Jasmine.

I have seen that many people on fanpop dislike Jasmine, o at least don't give her much credit. She happens to be my 2nd preferito princess, and I just Amore how confident and adventurous she is. Here I will explain why I like her and deliver on some common things detto against Jasmine.

Here are my preferito things about Jasmine:

She always stands up for herself. I Amore Jasmine's style- she always stands up for herself and what she believes in. I don't think she's rude, selfish o unappreciative- how would te feel if te were trapped your whole life and forced to marry a pompous jerk who doesn't care about you? She might not have to clean all giorno like Cenerentola o Snow White, but gelsomino has issues too, and she decided to stand up for herself when she was being treated like property.

She's adventurous. I can relate to this, because, although I Amore my mid-sized town, I often get bored of it, I long to see the world. gelsomino has it much worse, because she has been stuck in the palace her whole life! She wants to get out and see all there is to see, do all there is to do. Some may argue that she has everything, but she knows that she wants so much più than the riches of royalty.

She's clever. As she detto when she was pole vaulting over the roofs of Agrabah with Aladdin, gelsomino is a fast learner and thinker. She also figured out when he was lying to her da asking a smart question, and although it was quite disturbing and nasty, it was pretty clever for her to distract Jafar da seducing him. It's true, and Aladdin even admitted it (It's so cute when he's lovesick over her!)

She wears pants. This is a no-brainer. And who could pull off those harem pants better than Jasmine?

Here are some commonly stated opinions against Jasmine:

"She is so rude to her father/Aladdin/everyone." Like I detto before, gelsomino was only standing up for herself after putting up with years of crud. How would te feel if te were in her position? She is just a little più feisty than some of the other princesses.

"She's hypocritical- she detto she wasn't a prize to be won, and she let Aladdin treat her like a prize!" This is just my opinion, but I think there's a difference there. When Aladdin tried so hard to get her, it was out of sheer Amore and respect for Jasmine. When he, the Sultan, and Jafar were fighting over who would marry her, that was not so respectful- each of them were trying to decide Jasmine's fate when obviously that was hers to decide. She had a right to put them in their place!

"Jasmine is stupid for thinking she could just give a little boy an mela, apple without paying for it." Well, she was locked up her whole life, what do te expect? She was just being kind, and that vendor may have overreacted a tad... just saying...

"Jasmine is ungrateful and spoiled." Just because she lived in a palace doesn't make her life amazing. For heaven's sake, she was LOCKED UP in her palace! She had no freedom o real friends, but her cuore longed for adventure. Maybe she didn't have to do grueling work all day, and maybe she didn't have any physical problems, but mental health is just as important and her life was just as bad as any other princess'.

I am not saying in any way that gelsomino has no flaws. She does. However, sometimes people degrade her in a way that forgets how cool she really is! (in my humble opinion, of course) Thanks for Leggere and please commento to tell me what te think!

hirohamada Great article! I totally agree with what you said that "Jasmine has it much worse, because she has been stuck in the palace her whole life! But my main objection to her is she keeps being angry and disappointed with her surrounding (like forcing her to marry etc.) but she cannot make a big change. She kisses Jafar but her plan doesn't work (yeah, surprised Aladdin only stares at her doing that). She claims she's not "a prize to be won" but she cannot change a thing. Even in the end, it's her father who changes "that stupid law". I prefer someone who can bring an impactful outcome. PS: I'm not Jasmine hater. I love her for what she is and her beauty (oh, perhaps also her song too XD)

Anii147 The double standards that people use to demean her are quite pathetic if I say so myself. She dors have her moments of rudeness, I will not deny that. What my issue is, that people ignore the other's acts of rudeness and selfishness, because they like them, or for whatever other reason. You don't hear people complaining about Ariel being rude or a negative person when they both are in a similar boat. I just do not like how people scrutinize her and some others, and either ignore or glorify another person doing the same damn thing.

Sparklefairy375 Well sorry, I didn't mean to not appreciate your work to made this article (I actually really appreciated your article, don't be misunderstood), but honestly I must said I'm one of the peoples who against her. I never really like her (she is my 11th) but I will not insulted or bully her, just give some criticism. I hope peoples around here will be appreciated that and not bullied me. You said Jasmine always stands up for herself. I know that and I understand the feel of forced to marry with a jerk. But that I don't like is how the way she expresses her disagreement with her father. She's too abusive to speak and she seems like an unfriendly person. Can't she spoke a bit more delicate, though that she's really mad? That's something I don't get it from her. She's adventurous and clever, I'm not going to argue about it because nothing was wrong with that. She wears pants. I'm a bit confused with this. Why if she wears pants. Does that makes her seems more masculine or somewhat? She's more feisty? Feisty is good but we can be act feisty without unfriendly attitude. For example, Ariel and Merida are feisty too but they didn't show any of unfriendly act. Thought it's true, that they are previously also act and speak curtly with her parents, but that's because their parents are too strict to them. Different with Jasmine. Her father aren't too strict but she still act so rude. "Jasmine is ungrateful and spoiled." I guess that means Jasmine has everything that may be not everyone have that. Okay, she was frustrated with her life, doesn't have freedom, true friends, or something like that. Without prejudice mental health (I agree with this one), she just forget to be grateful for what she has. She never imagined, what if she was poor and needy, and have to work hard every day, like some ordinary peoples in her kingdom. Many people who wishes to have life like her, but she herself seems to wasted any of it. Certainly that's why many peoples who think that she is not grateful.

TheMusicalMolls Thanks for your opinion, Sparklefairy375. This article was just my opinion, so it's alright if you disagree. A few points: *I think she feels that if she spoke more "delicate" as you say, she wouldn't be heard by her father. Not saying she's right or wrong for doing that, just the way she might feel. *Like I said in an above comment, it's not really a serious example, but it's just cool because most other princesses don't wear pants. *Ariel and Merida do act somewhat disrespectful, and Jasmine's dad might not be too overpowering or unkind, but there's still the fact that he wouldn't let her outside the palace and all. Like I said in the article, Jasmine does have flaws, but there's kind of a reason for her behavior. *Having a lot of things doesn't make someone ungrateful and spoiled. That comes from being mean and acting like you don't appreciate what you have. Jasmine may be slightly unappreciative simply because she never got to see anything else her whole life. Anyways, I also think she learned about the poorer people when she sneaked out of the palace and talked to Aladdin, which probably made her glad for what she has. People need to realize the situation she is in. People act as if they would not be rude to anyone if constantly bothered all the time. The only thing I disagreed was the pants situation. anukriti2409 its a great article! Though Jasmine is my personal least favorite but i really love fans writing defense/positive articles on them. It makes me remember the good things of DP. I do love Jasmine for her independent thinking, not confining to norms when she knows it does her harm more than good. I love how she's such a good judge of character and a quick learner. And i adore her for living life on her own terms. I also really like how she sports the harem pants, she totally rocks it. But undeniably, she's quite rude and unappreciative of her privileges. But great article!
