Glee landed the dreaded Friday 9 p.m. ET timeslot for its sixth and final 13-episode season we knew the ratings for January 9’s long-awaited season opener weren’t going to be great, but we had no idea they’d be this bad. How many people actually tuned in to Season 6 Episodes 1 and 2: “Loser Like Me/Homecoming”? Read on to find out!
Per Entertainment Weekly, the two-hour Season 6 premiere extravaganza was watched by a paltry 2.3 million viewers and earned a disappointing 0.7 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo. Even worse? The Glee Season 6 premiere was the lowest-rated regular episode for a series on a major broadcast network for Friday night. For comparison’s sake, even ABC’s comedy Cristela beat the FOX dramedy by a landslide with 6.7 million viewers and a 1.3 in the key demo.
So what’s the good news we promised? While “Loser Like Me/Homecoming” was easily Glee’s lowest-rated premiere ever (sad face) TVLine points out that the show’s most recent episodes were up 21 percent and a tenth from its May 2014 Season 5 finale (which aired on a Tuesday). It’s not much, but it’s an improvement!
In next week’s installment — Season 6, Episode 3: “Jagged Little Tapestry” — Santana (Naya Rivera) proposes to Brittany (Heather Morris), so hopefully that will lure in some additional Gleeks and boost the show’s dismal ratings.
