Well I know exactly the origin of the English werewolf, but with vampires... I'd say our greatest guess as to the story of the vampire is that there was an outbreak of rabies within bats around the time that Vampiri#From Dracula to Buffy... and all creatures of the night in between. found their way into the myths, and since madness is an affect of rabies, if people started to lose their minds - it may've had something to do with the human brain taking in the madness and the bites from the bats as a symbol of great evil from a bloodsucking monster. At the same time, someone may've found a dug up coffin o something of the like that sent a link into people's minds that the bats, madness and a dead body were all inter-connected. This is just a theory, but who knows.
