Well I'm not going to do your homework for te if that's what te were hoping, besides I read the book a few years fa so I don't remember the details; but think of it this way....

If it wasn't set in the 18th century how would that affect the story? If it took place in the future what technology could Jim have that would have changed the story (cell phones, better/faster boats, etc.). Would there even be pirates? Would Jim be più o less willing to unisciti them? If it took place in the future what medical o weaponry advancements could they have that would have killed o saved some of the characters?

Hope that gives te some ideas to start with.
