It was called Twin Peaks Book Will Cover 25 Years Between Seasons | Vanity Fair
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
about David Lynch’s cult classic TV show
. It was announced last week that the show would be returning to Showtime for a limited run exactly 25 years after the show went off the air. This particular anniversary is a winking nod to the late Laura Palmer’s cryptic message to Agent Dale Cooper in the final episode.
But 25 years is a long time away. It’s not wholly unheard of for a cancelled show to come back.
both had several years between seasons. But a quarter century? That’s too much action to be covered in a zippy “Previously on” segment. Rather than let the new series buckle under the weight of 25 years of exposition, co-creator Mark Frost will release a book titled “The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks.” According to a statement, the book will cover “what has happened to the people of that iconic fictional town since we last saw them 25 years ago and offers a deeper glimpse into the central mystery that was only touched on by the original series.”
This sort of integration of multiple storytelling mediums isn’t new. After all, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been bleeding into our television for awhile now. But it’s unclear whether this book will be
reading in order to understand the new series, or merely recommended reading to fill in some gaps. It’s entirely possibly that, like
book readers or comic aficionados before them, “The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks” readers will wind up being accused of excessive smugness. But with a show like
, which encouraged obsessive clue-hunting long before
ever dusted off its yellow crown, you probably won’t want to let a single hint pass you by. “The Secret Lives of Twin Peaks” will be released by Flatiron Books next year.
