If te are talking about the software, the comparison must be between Vocaloid and Utau. While both software are designed for making song vocals and share a lot of similar principles, they are not the same. Vocaloid was created da Yamaha Corporation in 2004, while Utau was created da Ameya/Ayame four years later. Vocaloid has its own voicebanks (Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, etc.). Likewise, Utau has its own as well (Kasane Teto, Hoshina Utau, etc.). However, te can't use a Vocaloid voicebank on Utau o an Utauloid/Utau voicebank on Vocaloid, although te can export an Utau project in a format that can be opened in Vocaloid. Also, Vocaloid is più professional-oriented than Utau, though the latter offers più flexibility. Vocaloid is proprietary software while Utau is freeware. Vocaloid has a black skin GUI; Utau has a white one. Vocaloid has a track editor, Utau doesn't. Vocaloid has più popularity and exposure; Utau has più voicebanks. Other than these mentioned, there's still a lot più differences including plugins, quality, exporting, details, and performance.
