I think all of these women: Darla, Buffy, Cordelia and Nina were all pivotal in different points of Angelus'/Angel's life and who made an impact on him in positive, negative or both ways and contributed in who he is today...but i prefer Cordelia in alot of ways, cuz they grew as friends, much more mature and they were friends, comrades, both knew each other inside and out.

Buffy and Angels relationship changed alot and although they love each other they're not in love angel tells Darla he never loved her because he couldn't and Nina he really liked her but Cordelia had just died and he wasnt ready to love again he was truly in love with Cordelia their love built over years whilst Buffys relationship was quickly over Angel&Cordy would have lasted
