If Makos' scarf belonged to his father, then why is it red?

His father being an Earthbender.

Could his father gotten him from his wife (Mako's mother), maybe?

That would be the reason why Mako was a fuoco bender and Bolin was a earth bender. But maybe Mako's Mom was a fuoco bender and his Dad was a earth bender. I don't know for sure. But I think it's ether one of those :D

well in the the comic libri which is created da the makers of Avatar and in the beginning of the mostra it says that the republic of nations were created da the fuoco nation colonies . In the colinies both fuoco and earth benders seem to harmoniously coexist with eachother in the the comic book series the promise part 123 there was this earthbender girl who considered herself as a fuoco nation citizen so she wore both green and red
