I have just always thought about this. I know that Brennan is stubborn but it always bugged me how easily Booth gave up. He KNOWS that he has to go slow with her and he should have remembered that. He should have known that she would need a little more time to adapt and he should not have just given up. Most of all, he should have known that he would have to appeal to her logically in order to convince her.

Instead, he left her and proved all of her suspicions about relationships to be true.

I get it, the show obviously wanted to drag it out, but let's just pretend it's not a show for a second haha :)

And obviously it's just my opinion :)

Not at that point in time, no. Now he could, but she wasn't ready yet, she wasn't willing to accept the possibility, it was still too scary, too unknown.

But that's the thing. He should have known her better and known that it would take her a little longer to change and become open to it; but he rushed it and gave up too easily, ESPECIALLY considering how well he knows her.

I kind of agree, I mean he'd known how he felt about her since he woke up from his coma, but he took it slow (IMO) because he was worried it wasn't real, everyone was telling him it wasn't real, and then finally when Sweets said that Booth was the gambler, that he had to be the one to take the chance, he took it. He didn't think it through, or else he probably would have chosen to be calmer, more rational/logical about it. But he had been thinking about it for months already and he just couldn't take waiting any longer, plus I think it was at that moment when he had his epiphany of just how much he truly did love her. How he had to be the one to chance it because she never would. I don't really think his approach mattered at that point, though I agree it could have been more graceful. I mean it took Brennan going through a bit of a psychotic break (so to speak), an identity crisis, and thinking about her own death and what and who she would leave behind to admit her feelings for him (and that was knowing that he had loved her at some point, if he hadn't had his confession she may have never admitted it still), so I really don't think it would have mattered how logically he approached her then, her answer would have been the same. And as for him giving up easily, she was begging for him to give up, to forget about it, literally tears in her eyes begging for them to just stay as they were for him not to push it, and as much as it was killing him he agreed because he loves her so much that even if it hurts him he doesn't want to hurt her.

Anyway, that is just how I see it.

Yeah, but that whole time (as in 5x01-5x16) Brennan wasn't 100% completely aware of how he felt so technically it was slow for Booth to make the move but it was still sprung on Brennan in a way, even if she did have her suspicions about what their partnership really meant. But that's not the point. I am glad that Booth made a move when he did and even the way that he did it, but I still wish that he didn't give up. He didn't necessarily need to try again RIGHT away, but at least give her some time.

Well looking at it now, the way that Brennan realized (in 6x09) is pretty intense, but before that episode I felt strongly about this. I do think that he could have convinced her. It's BOOTH.

Haha yeah, I totally see your side and I even agree with it in a way, but this just always bugged me.

I totally see where you are coming from on not wanting Booth to have given up, totally and I even agree with you to a certain extent. I just feel like at that moment for Booth he felt it's all or nothing, he was going to give it his all and if it didn't work out he was going to have to try and find a way to move on, because he loved her so much it was going to drive him crazy to wait any longer.

But I totally wish he had still persisted, though looking at everything that happened afterward, like Booth going to Afghanistan and Brennan going to the Maluku (maybe? lol) Islands it probably would have ended bad if she had agreed at that moment, anyway.

Haha I agree.

Yeah but Brennan was clearly running away from Booth when she went to the Maluku Islands, IMO. haha :) Or maybe not. Well anyway, the point is...they need to get together. ASAP. Please?

No, I totally think you are right. She was running away from Booth and the life they have together (their life of fighting crime) She was confused because of how much she had changed by knowing Booth, how differently she felt about things, the fact that she felt rather than thought about things, and I think running away from her feelings for him as well. But yes, they need to get together, like yesterday lol

I don't think he could have changed her mind that night. I think in time he could have, if they hadn't both gone over seas and not seen each other for a year.

I mean, it bothered me how easily he gave up, but it must have sent very mixed signals. First he was all like, "I'm going to love you for fifty years," and when she said no he was just like, "Okay, I'm moving on." I don't think he should have given up on her that easily, but I also don't think there was anything else he could have done that night that would have changed her mind.
