Yes I know this question has been asked many times before so I'm sorry for asking for 1000+ but I really want to know if she ever was really in love with him or simply just loved him as a dear friend

She defiantly loved him (at least in the finale anyway). I don't get how people can say "she only said she loved him because he was about to die". Since when does Buffy lie to make people, least of all Spike, feel better? At that point I think she respected him too much to patronise him by lying about loving him. Not to mention that when they were filming the final scene between Buffy and Spike, Joss said that he told SMG (as Buffy) to truly be "in love with him" in their last scene together in the finale. If she wasn't in love with him he wouldn't have asked Sarah to act like she was.

In the show she said that she wasn't but I really think that she did love him at one point.

if she didnt love him, he would have already be dead earlier on in the show. i think that even if buffy loved him, the way he is at the end. he fights for the good guys and i think towards the end he has nothing left to prove...and he is doing it for himself to believe he is not just an evil soulless thing.
