Elena came in and called out in her cheery voice, “Stefan, are te here?”
Damon gritted his teeth and took a heavy swig of his bourbon. It was just a few days fa that he killed a woman named Jessica out on the road da feeding off of her. Then last night he had spent a meaningless night in a bubble bath with reporter Andie Star. He could care less for either woman since all they provided for him was a distraction from Elena and food. As much as he tried nothing could erase the pain he was feeling and no one else would be her. da now he was pretty drunk but he didn’t care.
Elena came in the study and found him sitting in a chair staring vacantly at the wall.
“Damon, are te alright?” she asked, concerned for him.
“What do te care? Shouldn’t te be looking for your little lover boy and go off on another little romantic interlude?,” he drawled nastily as he took another swig from his glass.
“You’re drunk,” she replied.
“Well, duh! Thank te Captain Obvious!” he snapped sarcastically.
She came to stand in front of him and looked down at him and said, “I know what you’re doing. You’re trying to drive me away da pretending te don’t care.”
“That’s because I don’t care, Elena. I don’t give a damn!” he detto standing abruptly up to leer down at her.
“You’re lying and deep down te know I’m right. How can I help te if te keep pushing me away?” she detto as she gently placed her hand on his arm.
“I don’t need o want your help, so just leave me alone! Just go! I can’t do this anymore! I’m not who te think o want me to be,” he blurted shaking her hand off.
She looked at him and saw pain etched in his face and tears welling in his eyes that he refused to let spill. “Please, Damon, you’re better than that. Please, let me help you. Talk to me,” she urged in an attempt to console him.
“No! No, I’m not, Elena. You’d like to believe that but I’m not who te want me to be. I tried. I can’t. I just can’t be who te want me to be,” he told her; his eyes spilling over now.
Startled da Damon’s emotional outburst she went to embrace him. He resisted but she didn’t give up. She wrapped him in her arms consoling him. He stood stiffly in her arms quietly sobbing.
“It’s okay, Damon. I don’t want te to be anyone but who te are. I would never ask te to be anything but yourself,” she whispered as she stroked the back of his head.
“You don’t understand. I can’t be who te want me to be to make te Amore me,” he detto pulling back to look at her.
“What? But,..Damon, I do…I really care for you,” she detto looking at how distraught Damon was. She hated seeing him like this. She had never seen him so vulnerable.
He laughed an ugly, sarcastic laugh. “That’s not enough for me, Elena,” he detto and turned to leave.
“Damon! Wait!” Elena cried as she reached for his arm and grabbed hold of him. She pulled him towards her and did the one thing that came to her mind. He looked down at her about to say something snide but was caught off guard da her bringing her mouth firmly on his.
The world collapsed around him and nothing else existed except for Elena’s lips on his in a fierce, passionate kiss. He wrapped hi arms around her drawing her up against him. She wrapped her arms più tightly around him and cupped one of her hands around the nape of his neck.
Their baciare deepened and Elena found herself Lost in the baciare as much as Damon. How could she be so blind? He loved her and she loved him. She didn’t know when exactly she fell for him but she did, and she denied it. She couldn’t deny it any longer. She wouldn’t hurt him anymore.
