Merida - Chapter 6

With nothing più than a simple glance, Merida could tell the pale blond girl was from somewhere else. While most people were wearing simple black cloths with no torcs o necklaces, the stranger wore an elegant green toga, abito decorated da a thousand emeralds. Her hair was positioned in an elaborate up-do. She had oro all over her wrists. She easily stood out from the mournful inhabitants of grigio, dun Broch.

Merida walked towards her. She tried to walk calmly, regally, as her mother would have done, but part of her wanted to sprint o hop on Angus and canter. Could this be her chance to fulfil her mother’s dying wish? There was little else she wanted più than this. Except for maybe a good nights sleep and peace. But that seemed a forlorn hope.

A sudden stab of suspicion shot through her, making her stop walking and freeze momentarily. Was she sure about this? She was doing this almost completely blind. She did not know this person and the last time she had trusted a stranger… Her mother. Her poor, poor mother.

She was doing this for her but she had to consider the safety of grigio, dun Broch. She wasn’t the free spirit she had once been, riding under open skies and doing as she pleased. She had a duty. She had to do what was best for her people. But what about her mother? Merida rarely cried, she was a true Scot and was composed of iron, but right at the moment she felt like breaking down all over again. She needed to fulfil her mother’s wishes but she needed to do what was right. What was responsible.

“Are te alright?” a voice asked, and the regalness in her voice made Merida think of Elinor.
Merida raised her eyes, and was met with the viola eyes of the stranger. The one who had been wearing green.
“Queen Leah?” she replied with doubt.
This stranger seemed to be far too young although she held herself as proudly as any queen.

“I am flattered that te would think so. Many people say I look similar to her. I am her daughter, her royal highness Queen Aurora. I think te must be Queen Merida”
There was a softness in her that Merida could sense. This was the kind of sensitive girl that a younger and più foolish version of herself might have despised but Merida felt a grudging respect to this mysterious Aurora.

“Aurora. Like the goddess of dawn” she replied.
She smiled and it was sweet and yet a little detached.
“You have a very good knowledge of mythology” Aurora complimented.
Merida almost smiled. She wanted to smile. Of course, she didn’t.
“You’ll find mythology and magic are più important here than te would think”

The blond slipped her arm through Merida’s in an amiable gesture.
“That is something we have in common. I should like to talk to te Queen Merida”
Merida nodded. She decided to ignore her doubts and trust this stranger. She seemed genuine. Kind almost.

“Of course. But not here”

Elsa -Chapter 7

She had no idea where she was. She had woken up an ora ago, only to find herself in the cuore of a thick forest. Wide-trunked trees with multiple dark green leaves surrounded her and darkened the sky. She could not even tell if it was night o giorno the sky was so obscured. There had been very little sign of life since she had first arrived, apart from a big black bird that had burst from some branches and had scared her earlier.

Many minuti had been spent trying to figure out how she had gotten into this situation but all her efforts had been in vain. Her mind was completely blank. She still remembered some things of course. Her kingdom, Arendelle, to which she owed a duty and would have to return to soon. Her friend and creation (if that was the right word), Olaf. And Anna. Her sister. Elsa was certain no force in the world could make her forget her.

She vowed she would see her again soon. Just as soon as she could find out where she was.

Elsa decided that her best bet was to look at the sky. If it was day, she would wait for the Sun to set and head north. If it was night, she would use the stars. That was of course assuming that she wasn’t already north of Arendelle, but the weather wasn’t extreme enough to be that close to the pole.

Quickly, she turned the ground around her to ice and made the ice pile up until it formed something resembling a spiral staircase. It was not her finest work but it would suit her purpose.
“That’s a nice trick” a voice called from somewhere in the shadow of the trees.
Elsa was never bothered da the cold so when she shivered - she knew it was from fear. What kind of person lurked in the shadows?

Her hands itched to send out jets of frost until she hit a target. But fear was the slayer of reason and Elsa would never let herself be consumed da it again.
“I am glad te think so but I would be gladder if I knew who te were”
She was amazed at how strong her voice sounded. Her tone was più than just brave, it was fearless.

“I could tell te that but the name would mean little to you. Instead I can offer te hospitality and I can tell te where te are” the voice replied.
Elsa was immediately on guard.
“What makes te think I don’t know where I am?” she demanded.
A twig snapped and Elsa’s eyes locked on a figure she could now see emerging from the trees.
“Nobody wanders in these forests. Not if they want to come back out alive” the stranger answered.
“Then why are te here?” Elsa retaliated.

The figure finally stepped into view. They were a small hunched crone cloaked in a dark cape with a hood. Her hair was as wispy as the wind and her teeth were crooked and broken. One of her eyes were larger than the other. She looked defenceless but Elsa had learnt not to be fooled da appearances.
“I’m here to help you. I have heard a lot about you, Queen Elsa. I knew I was to look for a maid with hair as white as snow and eyes as blue as water in the woods and here te are”.

This time Elsa could not prevent the fear that took her over.

Ariel - Chapter 8

Melody’s lesson hadn’t been planned to happen on the spiaggia - but Ariel’s daughter could be persuasive when she wanted to be. She had told her mother how hot the palace was and how eager she was to go to the sea. Ariel had argued that Melody was due some tutoring on that day. Melody had suggested a way for them to do both. So here they were, stretched on a spiaggia of golden Sun, watching the vivid blue waves roll in lazily. It was the kind of the giorno where te wanted to do nothing. Currently, Melody was doing just that.

She lay beside her mother with her eyes closed as if she was sleeping. The princess didn’t seem to have a care in the world, similar to Ariel and her sisters at that age. She was no longer a child but there was still an innocence to her that te never really Lost until te were much older.

“Ready for your lesson, my Melody?” Ariel asked softly.
Melody’s button nose wrinkled slightly in disgust. She had probably been planning on forgetting the world for a bit longer.
“Do I have to? Why spoil such a nice day?” she sighed.
Ariel grinned. Affectionately, she ruffled her daughter’s dark and fluffy hair, causing tufts of it to fall out of place in a very adorable way.

“We won’t do anything too hard. I was just thinking I’d teach te some history” Ariel said.
Sitting up, Melody looked slightly più interested.
“Is it mermaid history?” she enquired.
Ariel shook her head.
“No but it involves just as much magic. Nobody is quite sure how much of the story is truth o legend”.
Her daughter snuggled up against her. Ariel took that as her cue to begin.

“Along time again, the kingdoms of the land used to engage in terrible wars that would result in nothing but più violence. It was a dark and dangerous times, but the Kings detested each other so much that they could never achieve peace. Instead, their Queens met up instead and managed to form a treaty. The land could now deal with the biggest threats together. This went on for many years until one of the Queens died. She left behind two daughters, sisters, who were both very skilled in powerful magic”.

She felt her child shiver against her.
“They sound like Ursula and Morgana” Melody pointed out.
Ariel considered that.
“I suppose, in a way, they were. The two sisters were once very close but the crown divided them. The land depended on the Queens, but the two squabbling enchantresses caused the most deadly war that has ever been. The legends can never quite agree about what happened to the sisters, but they both eventually disappeared and were never seen again. But even with them gone, the kingdoms remained separate. Too much blood had been spilled”.

Melody took all that in with a dark look on her face. In hindsight, Ariel realised that perhaps this hadn’t been the best story to tell on such a sunny day.
“What do te think happened to the witches?” she asked her mother.
Ariel debated whether to be honest. Her daughter was old enough now not to be sheltered but Ariel was still desperate to protect her.

“They’re both dead. There’s no way they survived” she lied.
