Of Course They Aren't Selfish

If Mother Gothel is selfish, they are more selfish. At least, Mother Gothel can use it for many times. Flynn narrated that Gothel didn't want to share but Rapunzel's parents also did not share. Who knows if there are many people who need the magic flower.

Well, for one thing they didn't know the song or the specifics to how the flower works. Plus their kingdom didn't seem like it had too many sick or dying people in it. If the kingdom wanted to use the flower, they should have spoken up.

I was under the impression that Gothel only knew about the healing incantation.
The king and the queen most likely thought that they had to use the whole flower and its magic to heal the queen.

i don't think they knew the song, it was enough if they sang for the mother to heal, if they knew the song then they would be selfish, but seems like they didn't know it, so no.

I don't believe they knew the incantation. I guess maybe they could have tried just using a part of the flower to see if it worked before giving the queen the whole thing, but perhaps there wasn't time for trial and error.

The flower could be a pretty dangerous thing to keep around anyway. If word got out about an immortality flower, I imagine there would be a lot of bad people willing to do a lot of bad things to be in control of it (if anything, the kingdom is lucky Gothel is just vain rather than someone violent or power hungry). It would be so risky to share, there isn't really a wide use for it even if they did know the incantation, which I don't believe they did. Once the scope of it's power got out, it's the kind of thing that would always get out of control and lead to trouble (even in the hands of good people, because who wants to see people they love die when it's avoidable, even if it's their time?). Once they knew of it, they might have figured the best thing would be for it to be gone anyway, and saving the Queen who is pregnant with the potential future ruler of the kingdom isn't the worst way in the world to get rid. I don't think they used it in an intentionally selfish way, and I think the flower being kept could have been dangerous for the kingdom.
