Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Zootopia” will sprint past the $500 million mark globally on Friday after three weeks in theaters.
The animated comedy has grossed $164 million domestically in its first two weeks as it’s dominated moviegoing in the U.S. “Zooptopia” may retain its top spot heading into its third weekend in the U.S., despite the launch of Lionsgate’s “The Divergent Series: Allegiant.”
The film has taken in $327 million internationally and is already Disney’s biggest animated release ever in China, Russia and Thailand. The China total is $134.8 million, followed by $24.3 million in France, $22.2 million in Russia, $15.9 million in Germany, $15.5 million in Korea and $14.4 million in Mexico.
“Zootopia” opened Thursday in Australia and Brazil. Major markets still to come include the U.K. on March 25 and Japan on April 23.
“Zootopia” is the second most successful release of 2016 following Fox’s “Deadpool,” which has grossed $331 million domestically and another $379 million overseas.
“Zootopia” was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, co-directed by Jared Bush, and features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Shakira. Goodwin plays a rabbit police officer who teams with Bateman’s fox con artist to uncover a conspiracy.
The film, which carries an estimated budget of $150 million, has received strong support from critics.
