Depends on which version of his costume. I mean in the very beginning even a tiny bit into Z, it still says has the character "Turtle" for front and back with is basically a short way of saying he's from Kame (Japanese for turtle) Sennin aka Muten Roshi's style of fighting. Later because he went and studied with Karin (or te probably know him as Korin... the cat immortal) and later with Kami, Kame Sennin detto he went beyond what he taught so told him o asked Kami to change the symbol on his back into the character "Enlightenment" which stands for the GO in GOKU... however because Goku is such a guy who won't forget his past and he still considers Kame Sennin to be his teacher even though he is so much stronger than him, Goku still kept the small "Kame/Turtle" on the front while at the back it is the character for "Go" in Goku.
In the Dragonball series he was trained da Master Roshi and the symbol on the back of his uniform is Master Roshi's symbol. In Dragon Ball Z King Kai added his symbol to goku's uniform on the back but also kept Master Roshi's symbol as well.
the front symbol means he was master roshies stdent but on the back it means hes king ki's stdent.i've whacthed Goku maney times and 95% of the time he's wearing that jacket
Depends on the timeline. When Goku completed his training with Master Roshi he wore the tartaruga House symbol which is pronounced "Kame" thus Kame House. Then shortly afterwards he changed the Symbol to the one he wares for most of Dragon Ball Z. Which means Wisdom, and pronounced "go"

Goku in the Raditz Saga had tartaruga Gi created da Master Roshi and he has a pet tartaruga so he created the gi/jacket of fighting and on the back says turtle
