I had the chance to get an interview with link from the F4. I hope you'll enjoy Leggere his risposte to the domande I asked him as much as I did!
Here goes a big THANKS! to him, link, link and link for interacting so much with us users and making fanpop a great site!

As a member of the F4 - how many messages per giorno do te get from fanpop users?
papa:It varies. Some days there's a lot of messages, some days not so much. But a dozen o più a giorno isn't unusual. The most common request I get is to change a club icon/banner/motto. I'm always happy to do this (and we definitely need a better way to manage how this happens!). The secondo most common domanda I get is usually about medaglie (why don't I have one? when will I get my red medal? etc.).

I try to respond to what I can in a timely fashion. Fortunately, since there's 4 of us, I'm guessing the other guys also get their share.

Fanpop has gone through many changes, we got a new rating system, we got caps, a wall,...
Which change was your personal favorite?

papa:From the past year? I think my preferito change is the caps. Even though we know how and when a lot of the trofei are granted, I still feel some element of surprise when the berretto, tappo magically appears at the bottom of my screen. Like on Earth Day, I totally forgot we had programmed the Earth giorno berretto, tappo to appear, so that was kinda fun. I also get a kick out of making fun of Dave Lu that I have the "Jetsetter" berretto, tappo and he doesn't. I was mocking him about his lack of a "Rainbow" cap, but now he has one. So I'm hoping I can get another one of the good luck trofei and have più bragging rights.

There's a lot più we can do with caps. It's really just a matter of time. Our hope is to add some più into the mix to help recognize some other great things that users do on the site and also to commemorate special dates/events.

It has first been mentioned in 2007 and is still a topic of discussion nowadays- the possibility of a username-change. Do te think this is something that could be established?
papa:I don't like to say we'll never do something on the site, but this one is pretty unlikely. I will say there have been very rare instances when we changed a user's name early on. We had this one fanpopper who started off with something like "johnsgirl" o some such thing (I've intentionally changed her names to protect the innocent!). Well, she broke up with John and so she contacted us begging to change her name. So we changed it, per her request, to "jakesgirl" and figured that's that. But no, a week later she broke up with Jake and begged for another change. So we told her, ok, one last change but please pick a name without a boyfriend in it!

Anyway, I dont' want any fanpoppers to get the wrong idea. Please don't contact us about username changes!

Many users are interested in the reporting system. Does all reported content get viewed by
moderators before it's deleted o is a part of it automated?

papa:We have a bunch of measures in place. There are some automated components and some manual. For most instances where a user reports something, we do have some human intervention involved.

I will say that there's long long lista of reasons why something might be removed which includes, but is not limited to: offensive comments, nonsensical/incomprehensible content, miscategorized content, spam content, duplicate/repeat content, etc.

If the user who created a piece of content, for instance, requests their contribution be removed, we'll remove it (for whatever reason). So if te postato a pick and te later regreted it - but it's a perfectly legitimate pick - we'll remove it if te segnala it.

This situation happens a lot where a user might post a pick and the commenti gets out of hand.

In the case of miscategorized content, that covers a lot of situtations. For instance a pick that's really just a declaration such as "Hey vote for Hermione in the Potter vs. Twilight Club!" isn't really a legitimate pick. If a user wants to announce something of this sort they should really use the forum o the wall. Also personal domande are generally regarded as "miscategorized". For instance "What's my preferito stella, star Wars movie?" as a quiz domande is best left for a personal fanpop user club and not for the stella, star Wars club.

I could go on and on, but te get the point. There's usually some rhyme o reason behind what we do. But it's true we'll also make mistakes from time to time as well. Hopefully not many, but we are dealing with incredibly large nubmers of reported items.

Are te content with the reporting system as it currently is o do te think it needs
improvement?

papa:I don't think we're ever content with something on the site. Our hope is to improve things as time goes on.

Earlier when the audience was smaller I do feel that the reporting system was used più appropriately and più judiciously da the fanpop community. Also, the fanpop team had a lot più time to go through every individual item and più carefully and try to fix things that had problems o were mistcategorized rather than outright cancella things.

It seems that these days there is a little più malicious reporting (by a small minority of users of course, the majority are still legitimately helping police the site). I see a lot più "retaliatory" user reporting for instance.

Here's one tip: We'll take a segnala a lot più seriously when there's a note supplied da the reporting user identifying o specifying some misdeed o problem over a segnala that doesn't indicate what the problem is.

Also, some users think it necessary to segnala an item multiple times (this really isn't necessary and if anything makes us wonder if the reporter is spamming the moderation tool).

So yes, the moderation measures do help in general but there's always room for improvement.

Many fan were sad when the rating trophy disappeared from their profiles. Is there any
hope left o should they sposta on?

papa:I can never say never (no, I'm not a Justin Bieber fan!), but it's unlikely. HOWEVER, te remember what I detto about trofei earlier? I don't think it would be too surprising to see something that fills the void of the rating trophy in the future. I'm not guaranteeing anything, of course, just sayin'...

Something else that popped up quite often in the suggestion forum was the thought of giving
very responsible users some "moderator"-powers, so they could help remove spam faster.
What are your thoughts on that?

papa:This is a great idea. And, in fact, we have a small cadre of trusted vets that have helped and continue to help us with this.

I will admit that in the past, when we had much, much closer contact with the other fanpoppers it was easier for us to identify people to help us out with this. As the site got larger and più unwieldly to manage we've had to spend più and più time just maintaining the site and keeping things working (which resulted - unfortunately - in less time to interact with the fanpop community :-(

What we need to do is figure out a way to expand this role on the site without causing mass chaos to ensue (my only big fear is that someone goes a little crazy with any "extra powers" they might be given).

However, we're open to suggestions and ideas on how to handle this. So feel free to pm me o Dave on this.

Would te like to tell us something about the "mysterious" fanpop moderators? About how many are there and what is their job?
papa:I alluded to it above. We essentially have a small cadre of trusted vets who can help us out da editing content, updating club banners/icons, moving miscategorized content etc.

How long do te usually talk about an idea before it's established?
papa:It depends on the idea. Some ideas have been floating around on our project lista for years. Others just kinda pop up and seem easy enough that we do it within a matter of days.

The trofei feature is one that we had wanted to do for at least a anno o more.

Removing the 5-star rating system and going to a simple "I'm a fan of it" is also something we'd talked about for years. Eventually we ran some stats on the accumulated ratings we had and realized pretty much everyone was just voting everything as 5-stars. So it seemed pretty clear that offering a 5-scale system didnt' make much sense at that point.

How strict are te when it comes to users having più than one account? Do te ban them o is this something that's accepted when it's not used to do mischief?
papa:Oh boy. I'm gonna get in trouble for this! Here's the deal. As long as no mischief is being made, we're likely to let people do what they need to do. Multiple accounts for reporting other users o ballot stuffing on picks o for spamming purposes will raise the ire of the moderators.

I've actually seen instances of fanpoppers who segnala themselves and/or abuse themselves with other accounts. Needless to say this is not a good habit and will get te banned.

It's probably all superiore, in alto secret, but can te tell us a little about what you're working on right now, what we can look inoltrare, avanti to?
papa:We're knee deep in something we call "Project Green Unicorn" ;-)

I could tell te what it is, but I'd have the investors all over me. And we can't go doing that.

Anything else you'd like to say to us fanpop Users?
papa:I'll just take a chance to thank all the great fanpoppers out there for helping make the site what it is. We still enjoy working on fanpop b/c the fan are so crazy, passionate and inspiring. If there's any feedback te have for us please send your suggestions our way. We're all about improving things!

Thank te so much for taking the time to answer these questions, papa!

OK, everybody, let's all just take some deep breaths. I've been looking at commenti within the last half ora about the new fanpop layout that has thrown all of us for a loop.

There was a similar outcry of disbelief over, what I am choosing to call, the link. I am here Scrivere this to gather everyone's collective panic and misgivings into one place, as well as to try and look at the positives of these recente changes, in an attempt to placate some of your fears.

First of all, let's get the obvious out of the way. AH! OMIGAWD! fanpop LOOKS WEIRD AND IS ALL DIFFERENT! It's like Facebook and YouTube...

Ah props. They used to be a way to acknowledge on a peer to peer level that someone has postato something good. Back in my giorno we used to give props if someone postato a good video, o detto something intelligent but now they're thrown out like...condoms in high schools? *shrugs*

What are props?
Props are small medaglie that te can give to other users if te see them post something good.
eg; User_X posts a good video, User_Y gives User_X a video prop!

How can I give someone a prop?
You can give users props da going to their profilo and clicking on the "Give Props" button, then type them a short message...

Hi everyone,

I’m Scrivere this articolo because I believe the new bacheca system has real potential of improving the way people use the props. I realize that not all fanpoppers will follow my advize, but I still feel the urge to write this.

I’ve been on fanpop for quite some time now, and I’ve received and dato quite a few props. However, only a small amound of the props I received were ‘real props’. To clarify: da ‘real props’ I mean props received for actual content I’ve submitted. All the other props were ‘thanks for being a fan – props’ o ‘happy whatever giorno te came...

Reason For This Article

Recently i finally found how to screencap a page on the internet. I had been looking for ages and finally i found out how to.Naturally i was very pleased and was waiting for a chance to use it.
 My Joy was short lived
My Joy was short lived

Days went by,days turned into weeks and after a mese and a half i found nothing. For the times i had been on fanpop i had read the funniest, silliest things in spots and now that i could finally share them ,everyone became sensible?

This is a little game I made up just because I was bored. I enjoy it, so I figured I’d share it.
Just a warning: This game is only fun if there’s a spot you’ve added a lot of immagini to, but enough have been added da other people to make it challenging.

So, the object of the game is to... get lots of points? And to encourage proper image etiquette.

Be sure to keep something handy to keep track of your points! (Paper and pencil, blank word document, calculator, etc.)

Step 1: Maneuver over to your preferito spot (or preferably, the spot you’ve contributed the most immagini to)

Step 2: Look at...

The Fanwhore: Have te ever been added da someone, and then when te went to their profilo to possibly add them back, saw only posts with things like "Thanks for the add!" as far as the eye could see? Congrats, you've just met a Fanwhore. This person is pretty much just obsessed with getting fans. They can spend hours adding people, and will usually add back anyone who adds them. They tend to have obscenely large numbers of fans, and to get them obscenely fast. Can go ballistic if they haven't gained at least five new fan in the last hour.
Also, some Fanwhores tend to reform after a while,...

Nobody likes it when others ruin their fun da telling them the end of the story. Some people just aren't as caught up with others because they're busy o haven't gotten around to it. Whether it's your preferito TV mostra and you're a few episodes behind o a book that te haven't read yet, the last thing te want is for someone to tell te what happens. Spoilers can ruin the fun for everyone else and the last thing we want to do is take the fun out of your preferito stuff.

A lot of users were unhappy when fan were making picks that were spoilers during the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly...

Alright, so this is sort of in conjunction with a lot of other soapbox articles, namely Temptasia's two articoli on link and link. It is also a sister articolo to thecon's link. Additionally, it's minutely related (like a very distant cousin) to megloveskyle's articolo on link. But I really wanted to stress the importance of constructive criticism here. So at the risk of sounding (exceptionally) redundant, I wish to discuss the importance of expressing yourself, taking responsibility for your actions, and not rating and running. Forgive me if this is all too familiar (thecon's articolo summed...

Lately I have noticed a swell in the amount of inappropriate comments. commenti that have sexual innuendo, are hurtful, o are just plain gross, and most of the time they have nothing to do with the topic at hand. What I fail to grasp is why people feel like they need to do this. I can't understand why they can't control themselves and write something appropriate o nothing at all. Is it a lack of sense of humor? Do they not realize that people spend a lot of time contributing to this site and a commento like that can make all their efforts feel wasted? o do they not...
