Lets all get drunk on flanpop!
Lets all get drunk on flanpop!
Yes, people of fanpop, today (April 4th, 2008) is the 1 anno anniversary of me joining fanpop. To celebrate this I have made a timeline about my first anno on fanpop, which will mostra how it changed my life.

(Some of these are dated, some are not, and this is because some of the dates I don't remember.)

January 26th 2007: While looking for great Office stuff on Google, I discover a little site called fanpop.

April 3rd, 2007: I wanted to sign up for fanpop, but my parents wouldn't allow me to because they didn't like me giving out my e-mail address, so I decided that I was going to use a hotmail account that I never use to sign up with.

April 4th, 2007: My fanpop account was born. I spent a giorno thinking about what account name I should use. I came up with tvman because it showed how much I Amore tv, and it also showed how much I know about television.

April 2007: I get my first fan. bwright

April 2007: I post my first video. The Bu in the Scrubs spot featuring Sarah Chalke.

April 2007: I make my first commento on the Lost episode One of Us sneak peak (the link is no longer around).

April 2007: I start my first spot. The British Columbia Lions spot (BC Lions spot).

April 2007: I postato my first link in the BC Lions spot.

April 21st, 2007: I post my most popular, and highest amount of people rating for one of my video to date, a video in which Jim is impersonating Dwight in the episode Product Recall of the mostra The Office. Along with this I also coined the phrase Dwight Halpert in the process (no one else had used that until I did).

April 24th, 2007: I get my first medal in the Office spot. Most likely for the aforementioned video.

May 2007: Picks are introduced to fanpop, changing the site as we know it, for the good.

September 2007: I post my 100th video!

October 2007: I post my 100th pick

November 22nd, 2007: I finally get my first Die-Hard fan metal in the Office spot.

November 26th, 2007: The giorno that I like to call The giorno the Red Flags Flew happened. On this day, I had a total of 56 flagged video in one day. In just that day, almost half of the video content I had inviato on this site in the last few months I had been forced to erase.

December 2007: I post my 100th video Go Ted!

April 4th 2008: I celebrate my first full anno on fanpop.

Well that's pretty much it. Not a lot of action, but I plan to have più of a contributing role on the site. Here are my future plans.

I hope to get a laptop, so I no longer have to share a computer with people. This laptop will also have programs that will make it able to make my own videos, and other content.

I hope to get at least one of those allusive fanatic medals.

Well, that it. If anybody wants to throw me a party, I want fan pop, and flanpop, and as for gifts I want medals, fanpop attire, and lots of fanpop people. Ha! Just kidding *nervous/sad laughing*.
 Happy fanpop birthday to me!

 Yes, yes it is.
Yes, yes it is.
As some of te may know, I often suffer from grammar-induced rage blackouts. These can be triggered da anything from a misplaced apostrophe to the incorrect usage of "your" and "you're". So, I decided to do something about it.. mostly because I'm afraid the successivo dangling modifier I come across might send me spiraling into a violent rampage the likes of which have never been seen.

I understand that a lot of Fanpoppers are not native English speakers, and thus might not have as good a hold on our sometimes ridiculously complicated grammatical rules. Obviously, I can't fault them for their mistakes....

Right, I have been thinking about this. I have been thinking about certain things on fanpop recently and as much as I Amore this place there are certain things that irk me.

Hate Spots
I've seen spots that are about hating a certain thing. I thought this place was più about sharing things we enjoy so we can give each other images, links, videos, etc not "oh I hate this and this and this". It doesn't make anything friendly.

Me Me Me Spots
I mean no offence to anyone that has these kinds of spots and has created them but fanpop isn't MySpace o any of those other social networks. It's a different...

Okay everybody on fanpop is a fan of something, te have to be, But what is a true fan? Well, I'll tell you.
According to Webster's Dictionary, a fan is
A:
Function:    noun
Etymology:    probably short for fanatic
1 : an enthusiastic devotee (as of a sport o a performing art) usually as a spectator
2 : an ardent admirer o enthusiast (as of a celebrity o a pursuit) <science-fiction fans>

This is a great definition of a fan of a baseball team o a specific person, such as the Yankees o Brad Pitt. But is that really what the fan on fanpop are? No....

I'm not afraid of you, Ghost!
I'm not afraid of you, Ghost!
So I was hanging out on my computer this evening, watching some video and browsing on Fanpop, when I noticed something that disturbed me. In not one, but two different spots. I discovered several examples of what I believe to be "Ghost Accounts".

"Ghost Accounts" are what I'm calling additional accounts created da an already existing fanpop member to skew the results of a pick o an argument in their favor. I have read things postato da other Fanpoppers suggesting their existence in the past, but hadn't knowingly spotted any for myself. Tonight I believe I spotted three different people doing...

Have te noticed that people on this site add lots and lots of things and gain load's of fan then out of nowhere are never adding again o only add now and then. Look through your fan lista and see who is still adding and praise them for there loyalty and praise even più o even omaggio them for their work, they all deserve it.

da the way this is my first soapbox

Ok, I usually don't make user guides but this one needs to be made. I have seen a lot of picks and a lot of them are boring o annoying. Here is a lista of steps to help te out.

1. Try to have più than three risposte if possible. If the domanda is "Who should Jim be with?" Put, Karen and Pam, and then put an answer like neither o Katy.

2.Always have pictures for the domanda if it isn't a yes, no, o maybe question. Pictures bring in più fan and make the picks più interesting.

3. Try to ask domande that people haven't already asked and domande that people will be interested in. Don't make it boring.

Now these are the three golden steps to making a good, quality pick on fanpop. If te feel I need to add anything, then please leave it in the comments.

I have a pet peeve.

As a writer, I have found my stuff postato on other websites without my permission, and sometimes without so much as a mention that it was MY article... o a link back to the original. This ticks me off, and it is illegal to do so.

I have not come across this on fanpop with articoli yet, but I have seen it numerous times on images.

Some of the people I adore the most are even doing it. I have to assume innocence here and figure some folks just don't know... so I'ma tell ya ;)

Credit. Credit. Credit. The option to add the foto credit when te invia an image is there for a reason....

This is a forgery. Every single word is plagiarized. (1)

What is Plagiarism?
Many people think of plagiarism as copying another's work, o borrowing someone else's original ideas. But terms like "copying" and "borrowing" can disguise the seriousness of the offense:

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means

1. to steal and pass off (the ideas o words of another) as one's own
2. to use (another's production) without crediting the source
3. to commit literary theft
4. to present as new and original an idea o product derived from an existing source.

In other words, plagiarism...

Ok, there has been a growing problem that I have recently noticed on Fanpop. I have been receiving many e-mails that are very annoying and sometimes even offending. I don't care if te are having a problem with another fanpopper o te are telling me about a new spot. The fun part about fanpop is that te get to discover new spots for yourself. And we might not like the certain spot. Also, if te are having a problem with another fanpoper than just ignore them and don't tell us about that certain person.i don't want to here it. I might even be Friends with that specific fanpoper. If te are...

I was never intending to do a follow-up articolo on fanpop-addiction. I just took it for granted that I had grown happily addicted and I would remain that way. I basked in the warm, happy glow that only recognition for fanpop-contribution can give you, and looked inoltrare, avanti to the fanpopping years ahead.

But then disaster struck. And I'm not talking about the massive floods that have hit England... (I was fine with the cellar being filled with water...)No, my internet broke and left me without fanpop.

So now, my secondo list. The lista of what happens when a fanpop-addict is forced to quit.

1. When...

Okay, first of all I don't write these articoli but now I'm fed up! Can anyone please enlighten me because I am confused. What is the problem if I o anybody else posts più links/videos/images than another fan? If I happen to be the one with the most links/videos/images o whatever on fanpop that is because I like helping out the website. It doesn't make any sense for people to feel jealous o attack me o other people for posting più content than them. That is the most absurd reason to get angry. I am posting content mainly to help out the website but I also know that some people on here...

 Plugging away at our laptops
Plugging away at our laptops
It was just about one anno fa that link and I were having our regular lunch meetups downtown in the Financial District of San Francisco. Years fa we shared a cube in Santa Clara at Yahoo! where we first met. Now we were being reunited just a few blocks away from one another and having lunch like old times. We decided to pay a visit to our preferito hole in the wall, the International Cibo Court on the corner of cespuglio, bush and Kearny Streets. Most people would never have spotted this joint and even if they had they would pick up their pace and keep on walking. Being the adventurous (and cheap) guys...

No more nudity and disgusting images!!
Please don't post nude o indecent pictures in any spot. There are children on this website. Please don't post anything te wouldn't want your own kids to look at. If an actress is being made fun in a picture please don't post that in their spot. And te should know better than to post naked pictures of them also. There is a place for those immagini and it's called PerezHilton.com. It's disrecpectful to post inhumane pictures of an actress/actor in their spot. This is fanpop not hatepop. Another issue that has been irking me is duplicate images. I know I have accidently postato duplicates before...

I feel like it is time that I tell te how much te all mean to me and how fanpop has changed my life. About a anno fa I became a stay-at-home mom. Which was really a blessing, however a huge stressor in my life was the fact that I had essentially no adult interaction during the giorno and no way of really feeling validated. I found fanpop one giorno while browsing for Office episodes online. I saw the picks and it looked so fun, that I just had to join! Since then I have spent hours everyday on Fanpop. It is my outlet for all the stresses of being a young mother who is nearly solely responsible...

This is merely an addition to Papa's fantastic soapbox articolo on link (a must-read) but some users have still been asking about editing a pick that they've made after they have published it. Here's a very basic how-to.

1. How the Pick's Creator can modifica the pick:
If te want to add additonal choices to your options o immagini to them, all te need to do is look for and click on the pencil icona on the superiore, in alto of your pick. This will take te back to the pick creation page where te can freely add new options and image to your heart's desire.

2. How Voters can modifica the pick:
If the creator allowed...
