Marley was the unpoular girl who likes the trouble bad guy but he didn't know her, then they met, they fall but he can't accept it because that's the way he is and he hurts her, she meets another guy who is much cutter and nicer so Jake gets jealous and finally realizes what he lost, is not that he likes her, it's a pride thing, so he chases after her and regardless everything he has done and how cute Ryder has been "she choses him" start a beautiful relationship and 5 years later they get married and have beautiful babies... meh boring! I have see that story over and over again.
It's true that the popular guy & pretty unpopular girl story has already made but not on glee, we've never have a "perfect couple" that last for a while. Besides since the first episode of season 4 aired we all knew Jarley was endgaming and that makes them a cliche, we've never could expect Ryley endgaming wich is an original idea, or at least better than the other one. Now about Finn and Rachel story, this is completely different, maybe they're alike but is not the same story because 1. It was Rachel who fell with Finn first but he had a girlfriend; Ryder and Marley fell for each other almost at the same time and they both were single, 2. Ryder and Jake fought for Marley and at the end she chosed Ryder but you all know what happened then (damn Kitty!); Finn never fought with another guy for Rachel until season 2 with Jesse (but there's no Jesse on the Ryder/Marley/Jake love triangle), 3. Ryder and Marley ARE the typical popular nice guy with the unpopular and nice girl; Finn and Rachel were the typical popular jock (with a gold heart) with the unpoular annoying but talented girl, etc. As you can see it's not the same.
