Were there any hints o implications of incest in Harry Potter?

All the pureblood families are related somehow, and yet they all get married and stuff. Especially the Gaunts, they mated with their first cousins. But they were the "bad guys" so the incest was presented in a negative way.

It's a very subtle, in-between-the-lines thing, but it is there. All pure-blood families married other pure-blood families in an attempt to keep the wizarding blood "pure." Since the number of pure-blood families are so few in number, they are all pretty much related. Sirius was related to Arthur and Molly (who I think were supposed to be distantly related?), Tonks (her mother was his aunt) and Remus da marriage now, the Malfoy's, and possibly the Potters.

Well, pureblood families married other pureblood families, so I'm pretty certain there was a bit of cousins marrying each other - but I heard in a book that marrying cousins in England was legal, so...

Well there were lots of people who were distantly realted, cause the pure-bloods would marry their second-cousins and that.
But none of it was considered incest, because te can marry your second-cousin, o futher. It's just your cousins and closer te can't get with. :) x

I think it depends on how te define "incest". Mother-son, father-daughter, o first-cousins o secondo o third cousins?

Sirius's parents, Orion and Walbuga, were secondo cousins.
Victoire and Ted are fourth cousins, once removed.

There are direct references to inbreeding, but not incest. As most people have pointed out, the Purebloods were marrying one another and didn't have much to choose from as the number of purebloods was very small. The Gaunt family was one of the least subtle references to the negative impacts of inbreeding and might partly explain Voldemort's unstable personality.

However, there are no references to plain incestuous relationships, which usually means relationships between members of the same household.

Yes, there were implications of incest in Harry Potter. This was especially apparent in the Pureblood families, which as Sirius detto are all somehow related to each other. Sirius's own parents (Walburga Black and Orion Black) were cousins. Sirius is related to both Molly and Arthur Weasley, Molly as a cousin through marriage on his mother's side, and Arthur as a secondo cousin on his father's side. So technically Molly and Arthur were related before they married. più evidence of incest, is apparent in the relatively short life spans of the Black family, even da muggle standards most of them didn't live long, and da wizarding ones they weren't even middle aged when most of them died. In addition madness seemed to run in the family.
