Luke Newberry talks In the Flesh future: "I'd Amore to do it again" 

BBC Three announced last month that the BAFTA-winning paranormal series would not be returning for a third series.

"I got a phone call from our producer just before the announcement went out," Newberry told Digital Spy. "I was just surprised more than anything - and upset for the fans because they are so committed and passionate and loyal - and they really want a third series quite desperately!"

to be revived - petitioning both Netflix and Amazon - with Newberry confirming to DS that he would "love" to play Kieren Walker again.

"It\'s had two amazing series and there\'s obviously more to tell - there\'s way more - but I guess it\'s up to another company now coming and picking it up," he said. "I\'d love to do it again."

The actor added that he is "aware" of fan efforts to bring the show back: "My Twitter feed is quite hard to keep track of, so I probably appear like I\'m being really stand-offish and ignoring it - or [like I\'m] not grateful for it.

"But it\'s just a case of... it gets a bit crazy and I can\'t really navigate it. But yeah - they are passionate, because it means so much to people.

"It\'s a storyline and a character that has really captured people because it\'s so original - the writing is so original, it really is, and it\'s affected people and it\'s changed people\'s lives.

"I get letters from people saying it\'s helped them and they go quite deep - it really has affected people and it tackles really difficult problems that aren\'t tackled in drama and aren\'t talked about... especially with male teenagers. There\'s so little for a male teenager to relate to in drama, that it\'s been important."

BBC Three controller Damian Kavanaugh has defended the decision to axe

, stating that he is looking for "the latest and freshest ideas" in television drama.
