Three months later, things pick up where they left off at the beginning of the summer. Lucas and Peyton spent their summer together and are hiding a secret from Brooke when she returns from California and proposes a non-exclusive relationship with Lucas. Brooke takes pity on a homeless Haley and takes her on as her roommate. Haley tries to win back Nathan, who has spent the summer at "High Flyers", a pallacanestro, basket camp, however Nathan isn't ready to trust Haley again. He pays Chris to come back to Tree...

The tavolo had been silent. Ever since the arrival of Haley and Nathan, things had simply gotten worse. To call it awkward would be an understatement. Brooke had managed to keep her eyes down on to her plate for the entire lunch, so far. Not that it really mattered. No one was really paying attention to anything except their food.

Deb had simply received complements on her cooking, and then the tavolo had fallen silent. Everyone had been holding their breath, wondering who the first degrading commento would be made towards.
