Is it possible to do curls without heat?

Ok.......so I've heard if te heat your hair it can really damage your hair,and I don't want to get my hair damage!So......I want my hair to look like in the picture below.But if I NEED to heat my hair with a curling iron WITHOUT DAMAGING MY HAIR TO Much.Then,that would be great!
P.S my hair is layered it's like 6-8inches past my shoulders,AND I DO HAVE BANGS that are like about up to my chin,my hair is black and it's really staright.

lol well idk if this would work but im black with real short hair and i do braids like lil wayne and sometimes i get curls at the end and its fake hair so idk if it would work with your real hair.....ok te know how te can use curlers? well te te would put those on whererever te would want the curls and then te would get like REALLY REALLY REALLY HOT WATER IN A CUP o SUMTHN and then dip the hair with the curler on it into the water and leave the air in the water for like 15 min and when te take it off te should have a curl.....try it cuz that what they do on me...haha if it works send me a private message and te can say that te know how to do one thing the black way lol:)
