Depends on how much and whether or not there's actually a point.

I think it's really, really overused in movies/tv. Overused to the point to where it doesn't mean anything to the viewer any more.

Like how slasher films use so often that you go in there expecting blood and gore to be slushed everywhere- you're expecting it, and it doesn't scare or gross you out 'cause you know it's bound to happen.

Now, if it were for something like a horror movie/tv show based on an awful real-life serial killer- Jeffery Dahmer, for instance- it'd be different. That shit actually happened.
