Although truthfully I adore it all the way through, I think each season gets better. I love how the show and characters has changed and developed. That's what truly great shows do. If the show was still doing just the Monster of the Week episodes it would be treading stagnant water. :PPPPPP

I agree with fanfly. I think that as the show progressed and we learned more about the characters it has only gotten more interesting and more complex. Each season adding a new dynamic to an already intriguing show and creating more character flaws, more insight and more characters to love as time has gone by. While I do quite enjoy rewatching the entire series, I think that as the storyline has gotten more complex and delved deeper into the mythology it has gotten increasingly more interesting. Continuing what fanfly said again, any show that wants longevity has to get better as the show progresses. It has to change a little bit, delve deeper into the characters and find new and exciting plots to bring up or else people lose interest. I don't know if I would be as addicted to Supernatural as I am now without the furthering of these characters through their experiences during the Apocalypse when the mythology extended far beyond monster of the week and into age old myths of creation and religion and the bond of these two brothers was tested and stretched to the max. Of course, religion as a social construct fascinates me so I am biased in that department, but my point is, I think that Supernatural has only continued to get better and better as time has progressed, making us fall even more in love with these characters as their flaws were made evident and as they went through so much for the one thing that matters most. And I don't think the monster of the week storyline would have been as sufficient, nor memorable, at displaying the central message of the show (that family matters above all else) as the Apocalypse was. As much as I do find innocent Sammy adorable, I didn't fall in love with him as a character in his own right until around S4 and that was because he developed this whole new level of characterization, we got to see who Sam really was and how far he was willing to go for what he believed was right, and as much as I always loved Dean, watching him go deeper into this dark pit of depression after he got out of hell and pushing people away and yet fighting so hard to keep his promise of looking after Sam, was so insightful to him as a character as well. And of course in S4 the introduction to Cas came so I enjoyed that as well. But yeah, I just loved the angels/demons/heaven/hell/destiny/free will aspect of these past few seasons and the much deeper understanding of who these characters are that came along with it.

I'm probably babbling now, but I think/hope you get what I'm saying.

I love the first seasons, probably, because I feel there were more 1 ep stories. And it had more evil stuff = so more mythology (which I may also be obsessed with) Although I sometimes prefer the others because of castiel

But I like how this pick things. I mean, SPN is actually 2 series. Season 1, 2, 3, and season 4, 5, 6, (and 7, 8 =D).

I like Castiel a lot, but I just liked the first 3 seasons better.

hard...because i love the firs,the second and 4th above all..
i love the angel stuff and dean back from hell but like i didn't like very much the 3th and didn't really like the 6th...so
hard choice but because of castiel, i took 4,5 and 6

Although I love both and do enjoy where the show has gone/has been going .. I do sometimes miss S1 & S2.

I love how characters and story had developed.

As someone who's been loving this show from Day One, I cannot wait for these mega mytharcs to be downscaled, the angels go back to ignoring mankind (and Castiel with them) and the Winchester brothers focus on being the hunters they were born to be. The angel storyline has gone on far too long and overwhelmed every other plotline.
