It totally was. Two great bands together. I guess I can't complain though because I've got tickets to see both, they just won't be together.

Right now, Epica are the best in my opinion. Xandria is also pretty good.

I agree, I'm not really a fan of the sound of most new symphonic metal bands. To me, they're almost.... generic? If that makes sense. WT and NW also indeed have gotten più radio-friendly over the years, not that I mind sometimes (I actually really liked The Unforgiving, DPP and Imaginaerum), but both of their latest albums aren't that satisfying to me (although I can say I adore EFMB's last two tracks). Despite Symphonic Metal being my preferito genre, I'm actually quite picky of what bands I listen to because of this. *sighs* And of course I agree about Therion and Epica!
