The film served as the prequel to the 2016 series The Lion Guard. The series is a sequel to The Lion King, but a midquel to The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. The third season serves as a parallel to the secondo half of the sequel film, whilst the series finale takes place after Simba's Pride
