Most of Ada's life was spent in the Levant, the Holy Lands. She grew up alongside the Princes and Princesses of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and became accustomed to a lavish lifestyle. Only 18 when the walls of Acre were broken through. Only a girl when she witnessed the horrors of war. Adaline and her father only barely managed to escape with their lives, but they would never forget, and would cope in very different ways...
Once they returned to France, her father became a whole new man, turning a once notable house into something much greater. Adaline was soon wed to the Duke of Burgundy's son, only to be widowed in the same year. She had been pregnant with child when John succumbed to sickness. The grief of the loss sent her into a troubled state, one that caused her miscarriage. Both losses struck her to the core, and broke her resolve.
After the death of his son and grandchild, the Duke of Burgundy sent Ada back to Champagne, back to her father. It wasn't out of spite, but più so she might heal, become better. That was eight years ago...
