Vincent's POV
It’s funny how time can pass so slowly when you’re alone… it was only a anno ago.
Only a anno fa I Lost the person who meant più to me than anyone else. Only a anno fa I Lost the most incredible girl I’ve ever known. Only a anno fa I Lost the Amore of my life. Only a anno fa I Lost my best friend.
It was at a wedding; a family friend’s. I remember him being so nervous, and my mother trying to keep him calm. He was marrying a lovely woman, Maureen McCarthy, who was basically the most nervous bride I think there’s ever been.
I had strolled into the room where the wedding was going to take place; and the first thing I noticed wasn’t the beautiful decorations, o the white rose strung along the seats, o even the massive marble cake at the back of the room. Nope. The first thing I noticed was a girl. The most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.
Part of the struggle of meeting her was building up the courage to actually go over to her and speak to her. Eventually, I moved closer to her, I opened my mouth to speak.
“Bride o groom?” I asked her.
“Daughter of the bride,” She replied. I should’ve known just da looking, she had Maureen’s brown eyes and long blonde hair; she even had her small nose and pale skin.
I paused to think about what I wanted to say… “I see beauty is genetic.” Yes, it was corny.
She chuckled to herself and turned to me, smiling. “Cute,”
“I’m Vincent,” I said.
“Tara,”
“Nice to meet you, Tara,”
The wedding continued without me saying a word to Tara. Until the reception, that is. She sat at a tavolo alone, and I went to go sit beside her.
“Seems we’re sitting together.” I smiled at her, “If te don’t mind. That is.”
“No.” Tara shook her head. “Not at all.”
“So… how was it, seeing your mom getting married?”
Tara smiled, “I’m really happy for her. I Amore weddings.”
I tried to hide my disgust. I hate weddings and everything to do with them.
“What?” She raised her eyebrow.
“To be honest, I kinda hate weddings.” I explained. “I mean, obviously I’m happy for the couple and all… but I don’t see the point in coming to an event where everyone is a couple, and I’m the one single person. It makes me feel like I’ll never find someone.”
Tara looked at me, “If it helps, I’m single too.”
“Really?” I raise an eyebrow. “Someone as beautiful as you?”
She chuckled again, “Weddings make me feel the opposite.”
“How so?”
“They make me realize that my soulmate is somewhere in the world, breathing the same air I breathe, and that one giorno we’re going to meet, and get married. One giorno I’ll find true love, which is something I’ve always wanted.”
Her way of thinking inspired me, I had never met someone so positive, so sure they were going to find someone.
We ended up talking through the entire reception. She was 16, the same age as me; she took dance classes in the hopes of becoming a ballroom dancer one day, she lived with her mom, her stepdad and her two Golden Retriever puppies, named Sonny and Sawyer, her favourite book series was The Game of Thrones books, her favourite band was a tie between My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, her favourite tv mostra was The Walking Dead (which happens to be mine too), she loved travelling and had often dreamed of going to Rome, and although she didn’t seem like it, she loved anything to do with horror. Horror movies, horror books, anything. She was perfect in my eyes.
The dancing started shortly after we began to run out of things to say. Tons of couples gathered on the floor, dancing with each other.
“Come on!” Tara grabbed my hands and pulled me up.
“What?”
“We’re going to dance together.”
I was a little surprised. Yeah, I loved the idea of being together with her… especially within baciare distance, but I have never slow danced in my life.
“I… um…”
She pulled me towards her and smiled. “Place your hands on my waist.”
I did as commanded, and she wrapped her arms around my neck. She smiled at me and began humming along to the song.
I’ll never forget the song that we danced to that night; “You and Me da The Lifehouse”. Tara had later told me she asked her mom to add that song to the playlist, as it was one of Tara’s favourites. It truly was a beautiful song… and that song… that song became our song.
“You’re a really terrific dancer…”
“So are you,” She replied. “You know, for a beginner.”
“I’m really glad I got to spend this time with te tonight…” I detto softly.
Tara nodded, “Me too… it was amazing…”
We both suddenly stopped dancing when we realized the chemistry between us.
“Thank you… for… this…” She stuttered while edging her face closer.
We both leaned in, and she placed her lips against mine… and I swear time stopped. I had been with girls in the past, and kissed them all, but there was something about this baciare that sent an indescribable feeling through my body. This girl was something special.
We got together almost a week later, and have loved and cherished every moment. That is… until the giorno of the crash.
I get a call one day. “Hello?”
“Hello? Vincent?” I hear Maureen’s voice answer. It’s shaky, and choked up. As if she’s been crying, crying hard.
“Maureen…?” I asked, already concerned.
“C-C-Could te come d-down to the hospital? It’s Tara.”
I drop the phone as soon as I hear those words and dash out of the house, not even bothering to tell anyone where I was going. I run so fast and so hard that my legs feel like lead da the time I arrive. I see Maureen and Tara’s stepdad, Arthur, both watching as their daughter is pulled out of a stretcher. Her dress is covered in blood, some from her head, the rest from her stomach.
“TARA!” Maureen screams, her eyes tear stained. Her husband has to pull her back to keep her from running towards the stretcher.
I however, don’t stay back. I dash towards the stretcher, causing my legs to be in even più pain. I don’t give a shit. Tara’s più important.
“Sir! Please stay back.” A man pushing the stretcher says to me.
“Vincent!” Tara sees me and tries to jerk up, causing her to fall back in agony. Seeing her like this is eating at me.
I try to squeeze as many words together as I can before she’s pushed into another room. “Tara… stay safe, please Tara, I Amore you… I-”
“Vincent…” Tara says to me before she’s pulled away on a stretcher. “I Amore te so much… don’t ever forget that.”
Those were the last words I heard before she was taken from me. Maureen, Arthur and I all paced in the waiting room, Maureen had finally stopped her tears, while mine were only starting to form. Arthur was trying to keep us both calm.
“Well?”
“She didn’t make it…”
Right then; my entire world crumbles down.
I had always had slight bipolar disorder in the past, which is what causes me to act so negatively… but nothing prepared me for the explosion that was about to come.
At school I began recitazione even worse then usual; I would change into sudden states of sadness, o at some points, anger. Apparently I even punched a boy right in the nose when he detto Tara’s name in front of me, he started bleeding and was taken to the nurse. I started seeing the school psychologist on a regular basis, and she told me I was just having trouble coping with everything… but I know now that it was much, much worse than that.
Just days later, I stand before a group of people at Tara’s funeral. On my left, I hold one of Maureen’s hands and on my right, my mother’s.
“Would anyone like to say a few words?” The man at the pulpit asked.
“I would!” I replied. People were a little scared as to what I would do. The reports on my actions during school were getting around.
I stood up at the pulpit, my hands shaking and my eyes watery. “I’ll keep this short… I know we’ll both cry if I make it any longer.” I began. “When I first met Tara… it was incredible. I could tell with a simple glance that she was already the most beautiful thing my eyes had seen. We talked the entire night, us telling each other about our lives… and then we danced, “You and Me da Lifehouse became our song. And then shortly after that… we kissed. Now, I don’t believe in Amore at first sight… but I will tell te that I knew just from the first baciare that Tara wasn’t like any other girl. That she was special. I could go on for hours and hours on how Tara didn’t deserve the fate she got… but instead I want to leave te with this; I loved this woman più then I loved anyone else, and if te ever feel that strongly about someone… te need to make sure each moment is special, because te never know when te might lose them.”
Only a anno fa did this all happen. Only a anno fa was I left, my cuore was ripped out of my body. And the part that hurts the most is that I can’t let go… that I still see her, that I’m still constantly reminded of my loss… I just wish I could sposta on sometimes…
While the last chapter was funny, this one is not. It's sad. I'll warn te of that now.
