Young Canadians have been demonstrating their thirst for a good read as Indigo libri and Musica marks the sale this week of 600,000 copies of Stephenie Meyer’s page-turning Twilight series in 2008. The paranormal romance of Bella, Edward the vampire and Jacob the werewolf has become so popolare among young readers this anno that the Twilight Saga has eclipsed the number of Harry Potter libri sold at the Canadian bookstore in 2007, including the launch of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This sales milestone comes in the same week as the highly anticipated Twilight movie hits the big screen.
"I never expected to see another series sell as many copies as Harry Potter did in 2007. For the Twilight series to have sold più copies in 2008 than the Harry Potter series did last anno is truly extraordinary," says Trevor Dayton, Vice President, Kids and Entertainment at Indigo libri & Musica Inc.
“We are inspired da the surge in the volume of readership in the Young Adult category. The number of libri sold in the Twilight series and other up-and-coming novels shows that young Canadians Amore to read. Book sales in this category have exploded da over 200% in the last five years” notes Dayton. “Teens have increasingly galvanized around books, and Leggere and sharing their passion for these stories with each other through social networking and digital technology.”
The Twilight series has become a huge phenomenon across the world, and especially in Canada where the series’ loyal fan base, also called “Twilighters”, has become so devoted that they clamour to be among the first to buy copies of each new release. Just this summer, to launch Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book in the Twilight Saga, thousands of fan across Canada attended Midnight Masquerade parties at Indigo and Chapters stores to be among the first to buy copies of the latest book.
With the holidays fast approaching, this impressive milestone reminds parents that libri make great gifts providing hours of entertainment and serve as a catalyst for connection with their teens. At the opening of their new Londra department store, Selfridges held a survey to find out the superiore, in alto kisses of the past decade. Coming in at number one on their lista was the baciare between Edward and Bella in “Twilight.” Considering the current fan frenzy and media hype surrounding the “are they/aren’t they” relationship of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, this shouldn’t be a big surprise. Regarding Kayla.....
Guys, I regret to inform te that my internet had committed technical suicide. I have stolen someone's laptop to write this and I hate to tell te that until someone revives my internet no further Kayla chapters can be posted.
This is an unforseen event and I will kick as many asses as I can to get the internet working agan.
I will continue to write the chapters and try to steal as many laptops and PCs as possible to post them.
I hate that I leave my story with te at such a critical point. Unfortunately this post is just a spur of the moment thing and I don't have my memory stick with me o I'd shove a chapter on at the end of this message.
Very sorry my peeps. te can verbally abuse me, my internet o BT broadband o all three!
