When we entered the house, I went straight for my room. My leg was killing me.
    “Esme,” my father called my name from the doorway. “Can I talk to te for a moment?”
    “Of course father” I replied as I moved my way onto the sofa.
    He came and sat across from me in the rocking chair never looking at my face.
    “What’s wrong?” I asked him. My curiosity leaked into the tone of my voice.
    “Nothing’s wrong. I was just…wondering…have you…umm”
    “It’s alright poppa. Just tell me what your trying to say.” I urged him.
    “I was wondering if te found any men of te interest.” he finally admitted.
    “Oh, that…” Father had been practically begging me to go and find a man of my interests for a few months now. Ever since my friend Elizabeth got married he wouldn’t lay off. I was the last one now. All of my Friends were happily married. Two of them even had children.
    “Well have te Esme?” he pressed.
    “Not exactly” I was bad at lying and I couldn’t say no because Dr. Cullen definitely caught my interest.
    “What do te mean not exactly?”
    I wasn’t going to give in. I didn’t know if my father would be pleased o not when I told him the doctor caught my interests-well più than intersets actually but I would never mention that-and I wasn’t taking any chances. My father had quite the temper although he never took it to extremes with my mother o I.
    “I mean that no men have interested me father. Sorry.”
    “Don’t apologize Esme. I was just curious. Off to letto te go, It’s been a long day.”
    I headed down the hallway to my room taking longer than usual with the annoying crutches. I hadn’t realized how late it had gotten until my father mention bedtime. It was almost 9:30pm. I had some troubles getting into my nightgown but my mother came in to help me. It was closer to ten o’ clock when I finally climbed into bed.
    Dr. Carlisle Cullen was the stella, star of my dreams.

    The successivo giorno was boring. And the next, and the successivo . . .

6 years later

    I got up later than usual and when I looked at the time I rushed to get ready. Mother would not be pleased. I was supposed to help her collect the chicken’s egg’s this morning. I dressed in my blue dress and put a white grembiule over superiore, in alto because I knew today I might have to get down and dirty.
    “Good morning Esme,” my mother greeted me as I walked into the cucina “Did te have a good sleep?”
    “yes, thank te mother. I’m sorry I slept in. I lot track of the time.”
    “Its quite alright dear. te here now so lets get started. Go grab the baskets out of the closet and I’ll meet te in the hen house.” she instructed as she walked towards the door.
    “Yes mother.” I got the baskets and headed out towards our hen house. It was a beautiful morning. The sun shone bravely through the clouds. It wasn’t usually sunny around here. We got a lot of thunder and lightning storms and I expected that the good weather wouldn’t last.
    As I walked into the fienile, granaio my mother was waiting. I handed her one of the baskets and we got to work. We worked in silence for a few minuti until my mother asked me a domanda that I wished she hadn’t because I knew she wouldn’t approve of my answer.
    “Sweetie, do te know what your going to do with your future yet?” I knew the domanda she was really asking was Your 22. te need a life. How are te going to get one? so I answered honestly.
    “I want to sposta to the West and become a teacher.” I replied waiting fir her reaction.
    “Really? When did te decide this?”
    “Well, I’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks now and I decided u really wanted to go.”
    “Hmm, well te should see what te father thinks of this”
    And there it was. The thing I was really afraid of…my father’s reaction. There was no doubt in my mind of what he would say.
