Kate sniffed the dank air. Foggy air twirled around her, creating mini whirlwinds. She stood up, shifting her muzzle to the ground. Sticky paw steps broke the eerie silence as Kate padded over to Humphrey. His eyes were narrowed into mere slits.

"I just don't understand this weather. It's disgusting; never has it been this bad in seasons!" Humphrey exclaimed.

Kate detto nothing, but nodded solemnly. A slight mist started to fall from the sky. It became thicker; turning into fluffy snowflakes. Patches of white replaced the puddles from the after-melt. There was an endless cycle: snow, slush, and finally ice.

They heard a lupo in the distance howl with pain, o maybe grief. It was impossible to tell any longer. Lupi had died from the terrible conditions. The pack needed to ask themselves how could they to stop it.

A rookie Alpha named Sam crawled up to the pair. He payed his ears flat and held back heavy tears. Snow hid any sign of emotion from the young wolf's face as he began to speak.

"Winston-your father-is dying from the cold." Sam almost whispered

Kate's eyes flew open. "No! It can't be!"

"I'm very sorry."

Tears streamed down her face. "I promised I'd never let him go."

The little chocolate-colored lupo started to shake. She had just remembered that Sam had Lost his entire family to the cold.
