Hi guys ... this is my contribution to the visitation challenge ...
“Goodnight Gwen” the knights bid her goodbye.
“Good night everyone,thank te for everything”
“Is he here yet?” Merlin asked.
“He should be anytime soon”
“Hmmm … so this is where he’s been sneaking to all this while, huh?”
“Merlin!”
“All right … wouldn’t want to spoil our lover’s reunion here, do we?” Merlin chuckled and joined the knights.
Seeing them off, Gwen walked in and closed the door behind her.
All this while, a hooded figure snuck behind a pillar and watched everything in silence.
The tap on the door was hurried. Gwen opened the door and smiled.
“Arthur” she wasn’t surprised.
“Guinevere” he said, smiling and stepped in. Closing the door, Gwen looked at him apologetically.
“Sorry, the place is a mess … sit down, I’ll get te something”
“It’s all right Guinevere …” Arthur detto and looked around, his face taut.
“Are te all right?”
“I … I’m sorry I didn’t get te anything Guinevere”
“Oh Arthur … te gave me your cuore and that surpasses all gifts in the world”
“No, it’s your birthday and I should have … at least …”
“Shh …” she closed in and pressed her fingers against his lips, silencing him.
“Your Amore is all I need and I have them here ...” she placed his hand on her chest. As she did, Arthur grimaced in pain
“Arthur?”
“Sorry it’s nothing …” he clutched his hand.
“Something’s wrong with your hand … let me look at it”
“It’s nothing Gwen …” but she was adamant and yanked it open. His fingers bore pricked marks with dried blood stains still visible on them.
“What are these?”
“I got them at training today”
“These does not look like training marks Arthur … these are pricked marks … did te hold anything sharp today?”
“Gwen …”
“Looks like needle marks to me”
“Gwen … it’s all right. These are nothing compared to my battle wounds …” he pulled his hand back and it the process; something fell down from inside his cloak.
“What’s this?” Gwen picked it up before he did. It was a silky handkerchief; beautifully embroidered at the edges but the two alphabets at the superiore, in alto corner caught her eyes first. It was hand sewn, distortedly in disarray and strands of thread still hanging loose from it.
“Arthur … it says, A and G … did te do this?”
“Gwen …” there’s no point lying.
“I wanted to get te something special and thought i'd do this for te but … as good as I am with swords, guess I’ll never be good with needles. It’s horrible isn’t it … I spoiled that beautiful cloth”
“Oh my Amore … this is beautiful” she rushed to him and hugged him tightly.
“Guinevere?”
“This is the best gift I received in my life … I Amore you” her eyes welled up. Arthur smiled and knew she meant it.
“I have another present left to give” and with that he sought her lips.
