According to the contract she couldn't harm Ariel or she'd lose the power of the tritent and the crown. So she'd be stupid to violate her own contract. So I'm not sure what she was trying to do. And they were simply destroyed... But in that situation Ursula (REALLY) tried to kill Eric, not Ariel, so what KatarataLover said is still valid.
