How do I convince my parents to let me have a dog?

I realize there are already Q's and A's on this topic, but none of them seem to apply to me.

Okay, so here's the info:
I've wanted a dog for as long as I can remember, and both my parents know that. Allergies and spazio are not a problem. I'm hoping to get a rescue greyhound, I've researched the breed (along with basically every other dog breed known to man).Their personality seems to be the best fit for our family. Also, my friend has a greyhound mix, who my mom and I Amore because of his calm and polite nature. I am an (almost) straight-A student, so going the "improving grades" way won't cut it. (Plus, my parents, kind of expect good marks anyway.) I have a part-time job, so I could offer to pay for some of the expenses. My brother has a criceto (recently bought), but I only help tame and feed him (brother does the rest). We often "dog-sit" for a friend of the family and a relative. Unfortunatly, those Cani were all small. (one was hyper though...)
My mother seems to think the task of looking after a dog will fall completely onto her, and I can't convince her that I am responsible enough. I've wanted a dog for so long, that I'd be willing to do practically everything if we were to get one.
My dad, on the other hand, flat-out doesn't want one, even though he likes them.
A really big problem is the fact that when I waas much younger, we got a border collie/german shepherd/hound/who knows what else mix, from what we now have realized a=is a cucciolo mill and not a breeder. He had many behaviour problems, that we couldn't control. He grew big, would always pull on the leash (to the point of my falling down), destructive,over-energetic(border collie in him) and he would often "mess" in the house. We tried to train him, but then my mother was expecting a baby, so eventually, we had to put him up for adoption. I still regret not being able to do anything. So whenever I bring up wanting another dog, my parents, esspecially my dad brings up our old one who we (emphasis o

In my opinion having a dog is a BIG responsability onto te and your family so whatever te sa to your parent must be the truth. So, let's go point da point. First off I get that te parents are seeing your last dog as an example that your family can't handle a dob, but te can state the differences between then and now. You're older and fully aware of what having a dog means so te will be able to look after it properly. Also, tell them that te have studied the personality of the dog te want to adopt and the reasons why te think it will be a good fit to your family.

Second, I get parents who think the whole dog responsability will fall on them as my mom is one of them. Again state that your are older and that te are responsible enough considering your good grades and your ability to hold a part time job. Maybe te can also tell them that te will schedule time to spend with your new dog and will be able to take care of it and give it all the Amore it deserves.

Maybe te can also add some of the benefits of having a dog. People with pets live longer, for example. :P Since your parents alredy like Cani te could use that and say that you've already dog sat before and were able to handle it.

I hope I helped a little bit. :)

bring a dog home and say to your parent that this dog was in a kenal and the lady told me that he has had bad owners who kick punch, punzone and put boiling water over the dog and then they will feel sorry

That is a very bad idea indeed. It might've worked for your parents, but it could potentially go terribly wrong for others.

tell ur mom and dad that te would pay half of the cost for dog and vet bill. Also tell them that every 2nd giorno u would take him for a walk and when ur parents tell u to do something for the dog u do it right away. After a while they will calm down about it and then u won't hav to pay anymore. it was like when i wanted a horse when i was only 4 and i detto that i would take care of him every giorno and i would work to pay off the vet pill. U could also say to them that u hav wanted one for ever and make a deal that say u got 2 A's o 3 in one segnala from school then u could get a dog. Also went u go shopping with ur parents ask them if u and them could go into the pet store and hav a look at the animals. After u hav done that ask a person that works there and get them to talk to u about what r the terms of owning a dog. Sometimes having a fight with ur mom and dad and then go off crying into ur bedroom that will sometimes work. another thing is if u hav dog posters in ur room pull them down and put them around ur room. Then when ur mom and dad come in they will think OMG look what she has done maybe she could hav a dog after all. U can also do lot's of research about Cani even if u know lot's and look of how much dog Cibo would cost, vet bills, cucciolo school (if u want to go there) and even little thing like the dog collare and lead.

I think u should get a minicher dauchund they r easy to walk on the lead they r small and cute but don't let them jump down from high things because of their backs.

i hope this info is useful.
P.S. This is my dog she is a dauchund x kelpie but they need lots of walking. We keep her off the lead because she pulls on the lead so she runs. This foto of her looks like she dosn't hav a tail but she does. I hav put a domanda about her on "dogs" on fanpop. It is called "Rate my dog out of 10"

I got my dog because I'd first asked for a dog when I was three. I got several years later. I told my mom that it was unfair to me that she'd say, "when you're older" and like, three years later she'd say "when you're older" again. But don't be mean. Tell your mom you'll do all te can for your new dog and that te can pay some for the dog. Hope te get your new buddy soon!

I mean it sounds like your responsible enough for a dog but it is a big responsibility I'm 11 I asked for a dog and it was easy but the part I think your parents are worried about are how you'll handle it if he o she dies I never like it te sound really attached to it and I bet te wouldn't like it my dog got hit da a car at 11 months old she was the best and I didn't take it well your parents probably feel the same I had to give up 3 Cani last anno because I was never free to play outside with them because of homework and stuff but now I can't convince my parents tell me how it works out hoped I helped if not I'm just a kid

Tricky one. As te had a bad experience with a precedente dog, I can see how it is going to be hard to convince your parents, especially your dad. The only consigli I can think of for me to give is to be really sure of what dog would suit you; research breeders, get information from all sources, get right into the real nitty-gritty details about what dog would be ideal for your family. te say that the border collie blood was one of the reasons why your precedente dog was unsuitable; while not as needy for attention as collies, from what I've heard greyhounds need considerable stimulation too and are keen hunters-a person my family knew once had a greyhound who went around killing the neighbourhood cats, my friend also has a lurcher who chases and occasionally kills rabbits and once killed a young deer. Whether this is true of ex-racers I don't know, but maybe it might be worth taking into consideration. Once te know exactly what kind of dog you're looking for, done your research and know exactly what you're looking for, maybe te could somehow entice your parents da mostrare them all the facts, answer all their questions, mostra just how much te know how to care and look after such a dog and what it takes to do so. Then maybe that might work...that's my only consigli anyway. Go about it in a responsible and knowledgeable manner, then that might help convince them. Hope this helps :)
