Gossip Girl Domanda

Is anyone here russian and can tell us aboot those supposed "wedding traditions"?

apart from the general snore factor of this epi what really pissed me off was the way that both dorota and vanja were depicted. i could rant aboot them being portrayed as 16th century peasants..i mean purlease this is 2010 NYC..how patronizing and belittling can te get... okay not my point. WHAT were those bogus "russian" wedding traditions? I have never been to russia not are any of my Friends russian but it just sounded pretty constructed like a fantasy novel "in good matchapitchukino wedding vooman must trink vrom river at midnight"- i mean whats up with that?
they made it sound like russia was some deep dark foreign place no one would ever know aboot- was there ANYTHING remotely truthful aboot the stuff they detto that supposedly belong to "traditional weddings"? id Amore to hear from someone who would know.

Hi, i'm from Ukrain so i think i can tell te something about wedding in slavic countries. For example Ukrainian wedding featured lots of folk music, singing, dancing, and visual art, with rituals.
In the episode also te saw Rushnyk - is a Ukrainian embroidered towel. Rushnyks are used as decorations during traditional weddings, and often have pairs of birds embroidered on them, representing the wedding couple. All those traditions back to the pre-Christian era.
But game when pairs are dancing with balloon is populare in our countries too and it's not very old...
So i can admit it seemed true stuff, but there wern't lots of alcohol and fights)))))))))

thanks for that- the part aboot "a happy couple has to walk them in" seemed so constructed JUST so they could make it a CHAIR moment. ever heard of that one?

No, actually i don't know anything about "happy couple". On our wedding there are special people - best friend of bride and best friend of fiancé but they not supposed to be a couple in real life,

ahhh Germ!
Russias wedding traditions are verry constructed and for a most part exept for the games the stuff that was going on in Gossip girl ep Was almost exact! They like the weddings to be formal and they like to make sure the couple will work so there are les divorces. Alot of people still go with the tradition but its 2010 now and te can basically have whatever kind of wedding te want but the traditions are still alive and some old fashion russians still stick with them!

i think i will have to watch the epi again actually. it seemed like it was only so that they could make a huge deal- i should have dato più examples of what i meant and what sounded so weird. we have "traditional" weddings in the sense of church, white dress etc. maybe it was più that they announced everything "AH RUSSIAN TRADITION SAY" that made me cringe..it started lto sound like those lame "in soviet russia" jokes più than anything
