He stood outside the door of his hotel room for a moment, not wanting to open the door. He knew what waited for him on the other side of the door. It was another impersonal hotel room with one of those horrible flowered bedspreads and faux mahogany furniture. But più than the impersonality of the room was the emptiness. He would open the door, and no one would be waiting on the other side for him. He would be far from home without the things that he held dear.
