Opps, sorry for a giorno late update. I hope you'll still enjoy this chapter. :)
And BTW, if te felt shivers as te read along, don't worry, you're not the only one. Me too! :)
“Bess, open the door!” Lisa detto while knocking outside her daughter’s room da successivo morning.
She repeated the gesture when she received no response after ten secondi and she sure was feeling a rush of annoyance on her daughter’s stubbornness running through her veins and only because she was a little girl was the reason why she’s holding her temper on. She tried to turn the doorknob again only to find it was still locked. She rubbed her forehead before giving out a sigh before giving the door a pretty loud bang. “Bessie, I’m warning you! I’m getting mad on this attitude young lady! Now open the door and go out now!” she finally yelled her anger out.
When she turned her head sideward, Dan was now standing outside their bedroom, looking puzzled and surprised with her outburst. “What’s going on?” he asked as he walked towards her.
“You go handle her,” Lisa replied as she paced the hallway and ran a few fingers on her forehead again.
“Bess,” Dan detto while gently knocking on the kid’s door, “open up. I’m the one who’s coming in, sweetie.”
“No! I don’t want to go!” out came Bessie’s voice behind the tightly closed doorway. They both shrugged and just when Lisa’s about to yell again, Dan cut her off, “Don’t. te two have to calm down. Come with me in the kitchen.”
Once Lisa took a bar stool, Dan handed her a glass of water with the hope it’ll calm her down a bit. He waited her to gulped down the contents after taking a nearby bar sgabello as well.
“Now tell me what’s going on,” he detto as soon as the bottom of the glass reached the countertop.
“Hugh called an ora before te woke up. He wanted to meet us at the hotel where he’s staying but seriously, there’s no way we’ll be able to get out of this house without ripping each others clothes as we walk down the hallway.”
“By we, te mean te and Bessie?”
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell te but Hugh just called this morning. I don’t even know what his plans are.”
“Shh, honey, I am not mad about this,” Dan reassured as his hand grasped hers, “but I don’t think it’s a good idea to push Bess into something she isn’t ready yet.”
“Isn’t ready?!” Lisa detto loud enough for the cucina to be filled da her own voice but not enough to make it to the hallway and to other rooms. She jumped out the chair, hands flying around in every direction possible and began to paced, “when the hell will she be? She has to realize that not every time what she wants will be followed Dan. Her father ---“
“Will surely understand her,” he cut her off again, not just her sentence but her gestures and pacing as well. “Look, Bessie’s four, Lisa. And I’m saying Hugh will understand his daughter since she isn’t her first. I’m sure his three other kids might have done the same stubbornness when they were her age.”
“Yah, but they were with him when they were growing up. See the difference?”
“Uh-huh, but that’s not the point here. What I’m saying is that –“
“That I suck as a mother because I’m in my forties and yet here I am doesn’t know how to deal with this mess?”
“God Lise, no,” Dan detto after rolling his eyes in front of his girlfriend, “you just have to realize that this is a kid you’re dealing with. te can’t just put someone as significant as the person where she came from in front of her like a lollipop o jell-o and force her to like it in seconds. Something like this has to be taken step da step and in line so te won’t be dealing with a bigger mess along the way.”
Lisa sighed and walked towards him. He cupped her face with both hands, pulling it close to his. “Thank you,” she detto as she let their foreheads touch the other.
“Anytime,” he replied before giving her a quick peck on her lips, “now go and tell Hugh to cancella his other dates ‘cause for the following weeks, he’s off to court his daughter back.” With that, soft chuckles escaped both their lips again.
“Don’t worry. I understand,” Hugh detto as he placed a cup of tè in front of Lisa, four hours later. He took the chair opposite of hers as she sipped a teaspoon-size of the liquid before looking around the unit her best friend took the night before.
“I tried to talk to her, well, not just talk actually, I already yelled at her, but here I am, ended up mostrare alone in front of you,” Lisa detto after turning her head back to him.
“Oh, te don’t have to do that and I don't want te to do it again. I guess Dan’s right. I do have days to buy to win her back.” With that, chuckles filled up the room that eventually faded.
“Hugh…” she called him as he was staring out the window beside them after a few minuti of silence. It obviously worked because his attention was drawn back on her. “I am not being pointy, but what exactly happened in Londra while Bess was there? We know she also acted this way during the first few days after I told her te are her father but eventually that sunk down. The successivo thing I knew back then was she was asking me about te every minuto of the day, even to the point that she secretly doesn’t want te to leave the house. Wasn’t the trip supposed to get te two closer?”
Hugh couldn’t help but shrug as he diverted his eyes away from Lisa’s. “She probably run out of the bedroom and saw the fight between me and Jo.”
She sighed and his eyes went directly up to meet hers. “You think her attitude now has something to do with what she saw?” he carefully asked and was actually afraid of the answer.
“I don’t know but I’m hoping for the best,” Lisa wearily replied.
“Maybe it really is, Lise, and I’m sorry for that. After that fight, things seemed to be back to normal around the house. My children treated her fair enough the whole time she was there which actually didn’t last for a giorno o two. Sure there was some awkwardness but still, fair enough,” he sincerely reassured her.
“Okay,” was the only reply he got. Hugh knows how much Lisa doesn’t want Bessie in any forms of fight. He bet she and Dan would rather shout each other in a small portion of the size of a janitor’s closet, exchanging breathes with their faces one o five millimeters apart, than have a huge spazio of the house and let the four anno old kid hear them throwing shits to each other. Deep inside, this is also something he doesn’t want any of his children to encounter especially not as young as his four anno old Bessie.
“Could te give me a minute? I’m just going to get something,” as soon as Lisa nodded okay, he pulled himself out of the chair and headed to the bedroom.
“Here. Tell me about what te think about this,” he detto as he handed her a manila envelope which the lady took immediately. She opened it and pulled out a compiled sheet of papers. Hugh waited for her reaction but there was none as her eyes shifted as she read along the first few pages. The titolo actually says it all.
“Hugh…” she finally looked up to meet his anticipating stares.
“I know it’s kinda early… But Lise,” he knelt down on one knee before her that brought Lisa nothing but shivers running down her spine, “I really… really… want to do this.”
“Are te sure?” she smiled as tears filled up her gray eyes.
“Yes,” Hugh replied honestly, “yes I am sure.”
Thanks for reading! I hope I made it up to te after not updating for a day. /huggles/
