The village should not have left Sasuke to sit and think on the issue, but rather gave him a new home and some insight into the situation. If he would have had someone to look up to or at least a friend to stand by him right after the incident occured then that would have changed the situation dramatically

I think it would have because Sasuke left because he wanted to out do Naruto. If they had grown up as friends then he probably wouldn't have done that. And if they were training buddies from a young age Naruto would have been stronger and because of that the Orochimaru (sp?) attack would not have happened in the same way.

It coud go either way. It would just make then closer so if Sasuke was still interested in gaining the power and ultimatley defeating Itachi then things would be the same. But I'm inclined to think that if Sasuke hadn't been left completely alone after the slaughter he would've seen his life had a purpose other then revenge.
Still though, they had some pretty great times anyway and he still chose to betray them so who knows.
