Annabeth stood at the rail of the ship, hands on the railing, staring down imposingly at the Roman camp coming into view below her. Its looming architecture rising until it outgrew her, bright white columns growing like trees. But architecture could wait.

She watched the crowd of people below her come into focus, angry faces, curious faces, blank faces, ugly faces, pretty faces, young, old, thoughtful. But his face was nowhere to be seen.

A wave of anxiety hit her for the first time, but she quickly repressed it.

And then she saw him, standing there in that ridiculous toga, because of course da now he would be praetor da now.

She watched his eyes roam the barca looking… looking for someone with his bright green eyes.

The barca touched down with a loud scraping sound. She watched Jason and Leo let down the ramp, Jason scurrying out amidst cries of disbelief.

She walked calmly down the ramp, meeting all of their disapproving eyes. But there was another pair of eyes. A pair that wasn’t filled with hate, but with love. She walked over to him and looked up at those big green eyes.

For the first time in eight months, she was truly back to herself. Here she found what she had been missing.

Percy watched as the imposing Greek trireme landed in the middle of the forum, touching down with a loud scraping noise. His eyes searched the boat’s deck, skipping over a few guys and a girl before he saw her. Annabeth.

He watched her get off the boat, her grey eyes narrowed at the crowd of onlookers, blonde hair in a messy ponytail. She could never be più beautiful. And she loved him… he hoped.

He pulled himself up taller, rolled back his shoulders and started weaving through the crowd. He wouldn’t lose her again.

And then they were face to face. She stared up at him, and he couldn’t help thinking that his memory had been horribly inadequate at remembering the exact color of her eyes. And not just that, the way she smiled up at me.
